"I’ve got the freedom to call any pass plays I want.â€

“It’s all about communication between me, coach Ferentz and coach (Ken) O’Keefe,†Vandenberg said. “It’s like a three-way triangle among us. I’ve got the freedom to call any pass plays I want.â€

This hasn't been the norm for Iowa QB's has it?..

if it was done before, i haven't heard anything about it. really surprises me to see that. i doubt we'd have sooo many delay of game penalties in the past if that was the case with Tate at least.

Vandenberg is extremely smart, that is probably what sets him apart, even more so than his arm. I don't think Iowa has had a QB with a full understanding of coverages and how to counter them more than Vandenberg, at least not in the Ferentz era.

Obviously I love what I've seen from Vandenberg & the Iowa offense for the past 5 1/2 quarters, and also that the coaches have so much confidence in JVB. However we'll all have to keep in mind that audibles are tougher to call at the LOS when playing in Happy Valley (or any other loud B1G stadium).

He is a taller version of Tate. Same arm, better athleticism than people think and processes info so fast. Rarely makes a poor read. Even when he was bad against Northwestern threw to the right read.

Tate? The way he can throw a 25 yard pass in a tight spiral between the seam......Tate no...... C. LONG maybe. Been a LONG time since I seen passes like that. It was also good to see the Coker come out in the third quarter and show ( me state) us what we saw against mizzou in the bowl game.

i think Stanzi should have been allowed to do it, with KF micro management style of the offense it was not going to happen, but after the blasting KF took on the airwave and in the media press conference after the ISU game got him to thinking about more, then after the disaster in the 1st half of the Pitt game i feel he finally woke up to make a change

and here's the quote from KOK:

"Pure two-minute, no-huddle situation, he has a lot of freedom, an enormous amount of freedom. He knows the packages that we use. He knows the protections we need to be in. He knows the routes, the various coverages that he might be seeing, and it's a lot easier for him out there once he starts seeing it to make adjustments than it is to actually even make it from the sideline. He has enormous freedom there."

How much better would our clock management been at the end of games if Stanzi had more freedom?

Just my opinion, but I don't think KF changed because of what he heard through the media. I think it was more Vandy proving himself in practice and his knowledge of the offense. I could be wrong.

They didn't trust Stanzi as much as a senior as they trust JV right now.
