Is all quiet on the Hawkeye / Brands front for Iowa wrestling? Nothing really new on the message boards. We have followed the Hawks for years - been to the Big 10 & National Tournaments - and sure hoping the PSU buzz saw can be stalled. I have to ask - whatever happened to "the Iowa way"? Why don't we have more of those wrestlers? Today (outside of Ramos & St. John - to some extent) are not the type of wrestlers I watched - or brought my children to see - back in the early 80's. I have heard that Brands said there is no "Iowa way". That's disappointing to hear - from him. The PSU wrestlers seem to be having fun while Iowa wrestlers seems to just be happy to survive. Can't we have fun & win too? Have the wrestlers appreciate the fans that continue to support them? Is Iowa a middle of the pack team now? You guys know alot more than me - lets hear from you. Thanks

To call Iowa a "middle of the pack team" is ridonkulous.

The Hawks haven't finished outside of the top 5 nationally in how long?

The "Iowa Way" was so successful that it has now become the "D1 Way". The coaching ranks are filled with Gable disciples or admirers. Like I said in another thread, the "hard work beats talent", only works when the talent doesn't work hard. Well, I think you're seeing some of wrestling's uber-talented being some of it's hardest workers.

The thing with Iowa is it's extreme case of bad luck, as of late. Injuries and burnout have moved Iowa from the top spot to a top 5 team. In the past, we could get away with it because of the depth on the team. With 9.9, building depth throughout the lineup is hard.
