Questions for fans who attended game

1) Can you please tell me where you sat and what you thought of your seats in terms of view, access to restrooms and concessions and general game day experience? I'm getting NU season tickets next year and I want to be in a good section.

2) What did you think your coach was doing taking the ball with the wind in his face to start the game? Do you think maybe your coach would have been better off making sure you guys had the wind in the 4th quarter given that we couldn't move the ball into the wind and all of our TDs came with the wind at our backs?

I'll throw in a couple of my experiences just to save this thread.

We sat in section 224.....upper deck, left of pressbox. Took us 5 minutes to wind up the ramps to get there. The bathrooms were another TWO levels above that! Good thing was there wasn't any waiting.

Consessions were right outside the entrance to our section. Again, small lines. But, ugh, they ran out of everything but popcorn by halftime...no fooling, AND, they ran out of change in the first half, so people weren't buying food after the middle of the 2nd quarter.

The diet coke was warm.

It's obvious they weren't used to having the # of people in that section for games.

To top it off.....pigeons were continually flying over our section to get into the upper windows of the tower next to us, which, for some reason, had its windows open. I told my daughter to quit looking up when they flew overhead.

Wind, schmind. We only got 3 points with the wind in the first half. It's about execution. They had an 85 and 91 yard drive in the 4th quarter and we only had to make ONE stop. One. The D was gassed...people weren't covering. NW was running free on all pass routes. Do you realize it only took them 2:40 with ZERO timeouts to go 91 yards with the game on the line?

Sat in the Iowa section in 102. Concessions were a nightmare. Worse than Kinnick at halftime.
I left my seat 30 seconds before halftime to get food and use the restroom. I didn't get back to my seat until 10:30 left in the 3rd quarter.

I'm sure it's only like that when Iowa is there. Whenever the game has 20,000 total fans, I'm sure you can use the restroom and get food during a timeout without missing a play.

I'm not worried about parking or getting to the stadium - my place is right by the purple line and my buddy lives 3 blocks west of the stadium just up the street from the Central Metra Station. The tailgating is pretty spread out, but I will be able to overcome that I think.

Just stating my thoughts, I will never go back there way too much of a headache to get in and get out. Also the stadium was not nice, Indiana & even Purdue blow that place out of the water.

One of my adult children lives in River North so we took Brown Line transfer to Purple Line to game. 5 minute walk to Ryan field. Traffic not an issue.

Third trip to Ryan Field. Stadium reminds me of a High School FB team field.
Sat in Endzone 121 row 28 seats 4 & 5. Decent seats for end zone.

Rest rooms sub-par. Porta-potty's under end zone seats were brought in for this sold out game.

Concessions: my adult son who was with me "disappeared" for 30 minutes to wiz and get a bite to eat at halftime. Much worse than Kinnick IMO.

All in all, pleasurable experience. Just wish the Hawks could beat Peppy-Pat and the gang of Puttycats.

I missed most of the game but doesn't the team that has choice in 2nd half usually opt to receive the ball, and therefor the team you were playing aganest(IOWA) have the choice of choosing which end they want to kick from. So couldn't they have had the wind at their back in the 4th if they wished.

Sat in the closed in endzone towards the Iowa side. 45th row. Field seemed like it was in another county. Coupled with the near darkness, I could almost make out shapes of players on the field.

NW fans are idiots. Multiple reasons.

They have porta potties at the stadium, and perhaps they should have more than three.

It's pretty clear they're not used to having more than about 30K at any given game.

I had to remind myself that Northwestern participates in B10 revenue sharing, and that it is in fact an elite private school in the B10 conference.

Game experience generally sucks, but one has to admit that Fitz has his team prepared and ready to go. NW is better than Iowa year after year in this game. So, even though we have a huge following, a good stadium, a big time atmosphere, a better gameday experience, and a New Year's game on the line, we don't have a product on the field that can compete with guys who get above 30 on their ACT test, and are two star recruits. Go figure.

I had the "pleasure" of being at all three losses (Tucson, Wisky in Kinnick, and the debacle in Evanston). At Tucson, I rationalized that the D was gassed because of the heat. With Wisky, I rationalized that it was the massive O line they had to face. However, your point is excellent. Our d was gassed and NW had to make a 91 yard drive in very little time to win... and they did. AC looks tired...a lot. They looked listless. I can't explain it, but it's consistent. Good points.

You know what, racerjinx? You're banned from attending Iowa FB games 'live' from here on. Stay home in Mad City and watch the Hawks in high-def surround. If you don't have high-def & surround, crack open your considerable war chest and go out and buy a nice rig. Or ask OK4P for a handout, being the prole you are.
