Question - Press Coverage

Maryland is a heavy run team that breaks a lot of big gains, Hawks will play less man press and more zone this week so CBs can watch for the runners breaking loose for a big gain.

Iowa's CB roster is as deep as I can ever remember it. And very young. Losing Rugumba has not mattered at all.
Losing the weakest link actually did us some favors, I think. I’d hate to have tested Kirk’s union card mentality on him. Given his attitude though it’s hard to say for sure whether he would have seen playing time ahead of the freshman.

Ojemudia’s strength is in run coverage. I think we’ll see a lot of plays from him like we did week two, whenever he makes his way in.

Can you imagine if Brandon Snyder was still around? He may have beaten Hooker out of his strong safety spot!

Oof, that’s a scary thought. It seems like personnel issues have really worked themselves out in the end this season. I can only hope that playing the best player regardless of tenure continues.

I can sum up why it's smart to play more press in that our Dline is what it is. When you can get quick pressure and make them throw early you'd much rather be pressing than laying off. With nobody obviously open at the snap make him hold it as long as possible and either way the results have been in our favor more often than not so far

Not only the QB throwing early, too soon in the routes but also forcing the qb to pull the ball down.

Watch a variety of qbs when they get pressure in their face and see how many of them quickly pull the ball down. I heard about this many years ago watching a game and the fb color analyst expert said once they pull it down the qb cant throw it very well at all and the defense has really won the battle. The next step is to tackle the qb but chances are a pass is not getting completed.

This is why the blitzes right up the middle can be so effective becasue qbs are afraid of fumbling on the hit and pull the ball down.
