Question for Jon and whoever wants to chip in..

No, it doesn't get tiring, and I never proclaimed to have any real knowledge about basketball.

It seems the problem lies more with you than with me, in both of our cases. The sarcasm is helping, but not enough. I might need to dial it up more.

This says it all for me Ghost. While many of us will continue to use this forum as a way to discuss Hawkeye sports like it is intended for, feel free to continue to use it as your way of making yourself feel better with your god-like everyone is inferior to me attitude. I'm glad you think you are great, and hell for all I know maybe you are. Until you add something REAL to this board well to me you are just a waste of space and honestly not worth getting into a ******* match with.

Get your last laugh in as always. I won't respond to you unless you want to talk sports...

I was trying to be nice. I think it would be rude for me to flat-out say I am smarter than all of you. However, even if my sugar coating is making you guys feel stupid, there isn't much I can do. Just take that as a challenge to catch up to my speed, because I am not slowing down to yours.

:)

Amen

Ghost, awesome email. The drawing is just great and captures the current feelings of Iowa basketball fans.

The Iowa City rumor mill is running wild -- people think Lickliter is gone.

Isn't it interesting how quiet Barta has been?

Chosen, If memory serves me correctly you have been one of the voices of reason on here most of the season.

Ghost, Sometimes your posts confuse me as you have seemed to be on both sides of the fence during the season but for the most part I have found you to be knowledgeable. I do find your picturegram, or whatever you want to call it, quite interesting. And I have to agree that it is a reasonable depiction of the current state of the Hawkeye Basketball fan base. And while some might consider your answers to be a bit of a smart a__, I usually find your sarcasm a bit humorous.

My question for both of you - Do you really think there is a chance Barta is going to change his stance from a few weeks ago when he seemed to give Lick a "vote of confidence"? I have been solidly in the "give Lick another year camp" all year, but since the NW win and the disasterous road losses since I am starting to waiver. While I am not talking about Iowa, it seems to me that the number of times an AD at the college level or a GM at the pro level has given a coach a vote of confidence and then a few short weeks later a change is made seem to create a pattern.

It is not people I disagree with. It is people who don't understand what is going on even after it has been explained to them 1000 times. Do we really need another thread on this topic? Does it really need to be discussed again? Does Jon Miller really need to explain this to all of you every day?

I wasn't being a horses ***. I was facepalming in disgust. I hardly ever come to this board anymore because it has become the same crap everyday. Today is just the day I snapped...

God that movie was messed up, what was it called again?

Intelligence is like a river, the deeper it runs, the quieter it is. You strike me as more the babbling brook type. :)

There is a reason I appear to be on both sides of the fence, and it is because I am on both sides of the fence. I would like to think that I approach this situation with as little emotional attachment to the program as possible, that way I don't either take it too seriously, or make unrational proclaimations not based on facts.

Would I like to see a new coach? Kind of. Do I think Lick will get fired? No freaking chance. It is not about me wanted to give Lick another year. The people in charge are giving him another year, and they don't care what you or I have to say about it.

Thus, I do not feel the need to post 30 "FIRE LICK" threads a day like the other people here. It is also why I find it humerous that they do. When some fans get too emotionally wrapped up in the program, they seem to think they have a bigger influence on it than they really do.

The people in charge have a plan, and they are going to stick to that plan for now. Smart people don't change their plans or goals because Skeeter from Clear Lake has an internet connection and is using caps lock to shout his wish for the coach to be fired yesterday.

We'll see - i think he's gone. Skeeter in Clear Lake told me, double confirmed

From what Jon is saying, Barta is getting a LOT of heat on this issue. You're right, 1977Hawkeye's opinion doesn't matter one bit to Gary Barta, but the way I'm hearing it, Barta is hearing from a lot of people whose opinions DO matter.

I am taking it with a grain of salt until we hear something more, but I wouldn't be quite so quick to dismiss it all as a bunch of BS.

Ghost, these are the posts I like reading from you. I understand your stance. I too do not find myself too emotionally attached to come here and overreact to blowout losses or fire Lick, etc, etc.
Jon has been firm to his stance that Lick would be 100% back next year. That was before I heard what he said yesterday. What he said may not have changed this stance. Maybe it is just wishful/hopeful thinking on my part that it's possible. I didn't see any harm in asking. I in no way stated I felt it had to happen, wanted it to happen or anything dramatic. Just seemed like maybe he was changing his view.
I apologize for being a dick. Little more of this and a little less that would be great..

If Barta does succomb to the pressure, I will have a pretty low opinion of him. If he wants Lick to stay, and he is bullied into firing him, then we know who is really running the athletic department, and it isn't the athletic director.

To publically support your coach and then fire him the next month is pretty lame. I hope Barta has the cajones to run his department the way he sees fit.
