Phil Parker handled the DC job while Norm was in the Hospital and when he is not available
and has been the only Assistant on this staff that has been linked to the DC's job
Wilson is the LB's and ST's coach plus Wilson has only coached LB's for a little over 3 years as he took over those duties for Norm as his ability started to decline
soory a ST coach does not go to DC after 3 years of coaching LB's
Phil Parker is the most qualified of the coaches on the staff to become DC
i don't need links or proof to figure that one out
just comon sense which some on this board don't display

You do relize they were co-coordinators when Norm was out right? Also, he is one of the best if not the best recruiters on staff. The only people throwing Parker's name around are people on this board and boards like this. To say he's never been mentioned, well neither has Parker by anyone of significance (ie, the football program).

To say flat out that Wilson isn't going anywhere if he doesn't get the DC job is funny to me cause, well you have no clue.

I understand the general concencus was that Parkwr and Wilson were Co-dcs, but my understanding was Phil called the plays.

I feel dumber for having read this. Wilson is not "the ST coach" and it isn't always about years tenure. Certainly a typical factor, but guys get jumped and passed all the time. To be a Coordinator you have to display a higher level of leadership capacities generally, and an ability to lead leaders. Parker is most likely, but Wilson is well-respected - enough so that he was co-DC with Parker last year. In fact, I can see the same scenario play out moving forward: make them both co-DC with Parker the one who calls games. It ends up being a promotion for both, saves Wilson face and keeps him on board, while promotes Parker to calling the defense and rewards his tenure on the staff.

I don't know if this would work, there's no way to tell if they both would even be ok with this.

Back to Lambert, saw on 247 its down to Iowa, Nebby, and Rutgers.

tell you what this will be the 2nd time i posted about the coaching duties of Wilson
until Norms health issues affected his ability to go on the road and affect his effectiveness HE COACHED LB's and was the DC
he turned over LB'ing duties to Wilson and took a pay cut
Wilson was and still is a ST coach and handles the LB'rs
the ST duties were split in half and Erb got half who also coaches RB's
Wilson has only coached LB's since he took over for Norm
after only 3-4 years as a LB coach you really can't be serious he would get upset somebody else was named DC
all the doubters about my statement on the ST coaching duties, go look on this site and look at the roster and scroll down to where it list the staff and duties

I wasn't arguing that. I was arguing that you don't know how he would feel. Maybe he really would like to be a DC and feels he would be good at it. I'm saying you don't have a clue. I know what each coach does. But you also said that Parker was DC when Norm was down, but they were co-DC, so that is my point.

Take home lesson. You don't know how anyone else feels, you are making assumptions and stating them as fact. This is why people question you.

its no different than saying Parker and Wilson would leave if somebody from outside got hired
i doubt they would leave
where would they go, i don't see other schools actually knocking Iowa's door down to hire any of the assistants

Not that you know of, but you don't know that.

Wow herby you sure seem to have a know-it-all attitude. If you know everything, I think there is a ton of people on this site that would love to know who actually calls the plays on offense? Does your telepathic abilities point you in one direction on that one?

On the contrary, one of my family members is a defensive coach for a college program in Iowa (not D1 and don't ask me to name him because I won't do it, it's not necessary and I won't throw him under the bus). Anyways, he has spent a lot of time with the Iowa coaching staff because his d-line and LB's run the same scheme as Iowa. He's been invited to and spent a lot of time at Iowa practices and camps. He knows the Iowa coaches, and he actually believes if Ferentz hires someone from within for the defensive job it would be Coach Wilson. He said it's been obvious to him that Wilson is the best defensive coach on the staff (not including Norm), and the best recruiter.

I'm not saying Parker doesn't have a chance, but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
