Qb set for 6-7 years at Iowa.

There has been speculation that we might try for Gunther Kiel for next years commit. list but I doubt it. Obviously Jvb is our guy for this year and next. After that we have another star in Jake Ruddock from Florida. He has a redshirt as of now so he will likely be our guy for 2-3 years. I know that Iowa is looking at Gabe Vandenberg. He is putting up solid numbers at keokuk and if we land him, he will likely redshirt and will have him for 2 years after Rudduock. Does this sound accurate?

isn't gabe kind of short? and keep in mind, people said the same thing when we had jake waiting in the wings. that turned out AWESOME for us.

i'd say get all the stars you can on the team. if you have any real shot at a top 2 QB in the country, you go after him

I remember when we had great depth at running back in 2009... Never be satisfied and comfortable in recruiting.

Gabe is 6" so kinda mediocre but wouldn't you say that we should focus on more skill positions and a defense in our recruiting game to have a more balanced team. I love depth at Qb as much as the next and I know we need others on the roster but would you agree Qb is definitely not the top position on our priority list.

This is one of the silliest things I've ever read.

Do you think any QB comes to a school thinking, "you know what, I like the sound of 3rd string."

You've now crowned 1 kid who has yet to take a Division one snap and another who has barely hit puberty. Congrats.

Everything we've heard to date sounds promising regarding Rudock. But the guy has obviously not seen the field yet. Need I remind you of a recent QB who many thought was guaranteed for success?

To imply that we are set at QB beyond 1 year is not a good idea.

Springsteen you can take your negativity somewhere else this is a FAN board. And actually I saw him play last year when I did a year of college in Florida. My cousins attend a shool that he pooped all over last year and I recognize talent when I see it. I consider us lucky to have this kid. I'm speaking of Ruddock of course.

Oh ok, my apologies. I wasn't aware we were in the presence of such a remarkable talent scout.

All I know is what I saw in the south broward game last year where he dropped 50 some on them. I was unaware that you attended one of his games? So you can tell me how good he is can't you? That's what I want if you have no clue and never seen him just shut up

1. Lots of extremely talented players in HS bust at the college level (hope it doesn't happen with Ruddock)
2. Iowa needs a QB about every year, because they never know if they get a Stanzi, a JC or a Mason (example Weinke was an elite 11 QB and rated higher than Vandy)
3. QB is an extremely tough position to gauge, and Iowa needs some GOOD depth, as of now when Vandy graduates it is Ruddock and that is it
4. I can see the staff getting a Stanzi/project type and hoping he progresses and hoping next year they get another Ruddock (talent that hype is made of)

I'm not giving anything to anyone, but I hope Ruddock is as good as advertised.

You have to take a QB in each class. If you don't you are setting yourself up for huge problems. Iowa has been pretty fortunate at this position over the past decade from and injury point of view, missing probably less than six starts due to injury.

Iowa needs good QB prospects to challenge for the job. Ruddick may be the next starter, but we have heard that before. Until he makes his mark on the field, he is an unknown quanitity. This is more so for QB's than probably any other position.

A 6' QB isn't going to cut it unless the guy has some serious athletic skills.

Id like us to try and pick a little bit quicker Qb to give him competition. Never know what style of Qb will work with a given offense. See Banks.

This staff has a track record of recruiting QBs. smart football players, put them in another position if QB doesn't work out. go get em

The big difference between Christensen and Rudock, is that there is a lot of positive buzz from within the program about Rudock. That's what we've been hearing, and Derby's move to defense reinforces that. But IIRC, homer has said there was buzz that Christensen wasn't developing like the coaches had hoped he would.

Obviously we still need to wait and see, but I really think Rudock is a totally different player.

I think the difference is this kid knows hes a stud. When I saw him play he was confident in his throws and was able to scramble when he needed. Made very smart decisions which is what we need. I mean he played against 5A schools in Florida and other nationally ranked teams and rolled over them.

I agree that the positive word about Rudock is great to hear, but no program can depend on one QB. Guys get hurt, etc.

Search for some of Rudock's high school highlights. He can run. Very well.

Yeah he has good footspeed I just meant like a different style of Qb to compete with him.

IDK. He's exactly what the coaches look for in a QB, and he's more than just okay as a runner. He's good enough that it would actually be reasonable to call a few designed QB runs. Accelerates well, pretty agile. The only thing he needs to worry about is putting some meat on his frame.
