Hartlieb and Rodgers have joined the conversation

It’s possible they go back before many on this forum were old enough to remember them.

I’d take either one of those two over anyone on our roster right now. Hartlieb may have been the best QB at throwing deep balls right on the dime. That seems to be a rarity for an Iowa QB.

Long had a really strong arm and could throw a twenty-five yard pass on a rope and hit his receivers in stride. Some of the QB’s mentioned by others here were elusive and could throw the ball on the run.

I think Iowa’s offensive philosophy of short passes and running the ball a lot isn’t a real attraction for star QB’s wanting to make a name for themselves and gaining the recognition needed to play at the next level.

Iowa had a QB that moved to receiver and he was really good. I think he was tall at around 6’6” I can’t remember his name right now.

While Iowa's QB situation is historically sad, I am trying to think of how our rivals fare in that department.

Minny and Nebbie? Can't recall either having an NFL QB of note.
ISU had Sage Rosenfeld who stuck for a while. Anyone else?
Wisky had Wilson, but he was only at Wisky for a year as a rent a player type guy.

Again, I may be missing some names, but other than Purdue, the old West doesn't seem to produce much QB talent.

We tend to recruit or want "game managers" for Ferentz's style of play. Every once in a while we get that unicorn like a Banks or some of the aforementioned QB's that are allowed to shine, and can still meet that game manager that KF wants. More often than not, it seems that either we recruit a player at this position and they don't meet expectations or hit the portal when they realize that they are not going to play under KF's succession plan.

I don't blame a lot of talented QB's passing on playing at Iowa with our offensive schemes and how we game plan. That's how a Deacon Hill was our starting quarterback after McNamara went down. I think about Jake Christensen starting over Beathard as well.

LOL, can't believe I forgot Purdy. He only played my Chiefs in the SB last year.

Ferragamo doesn't count! They were playing with leather helmets back then.

Nebraska had Vince Ferragamo for the older crowd

Nebraska had a Heisman winner at QB who went on to be drafted in the NFL.
I very well remember his career. Only cause I'm a football fan who lives in St. Louis.

Huge NFL career.
Eric Crouch totally had like 2 receptions in pre-season games for them since he'd been converted to a receiver because everyone thought he was too short, I guess.
