Q. for R Howe - re: Freshmen Eligibility

Beginning in 2016 there are new rules for freshman eligibility to practice or play. Nationally, are all the highly ranked recruits assumed to have met the new standards for practicing and/or playing? I read where one of Iowa's committed recruits wanted to retake the SAT test before signing a LOI. I am assuming there maybe an issue with the recruit needing to do better in order to gain eligibility.

I've not heard of any drastic changes to freshmen eligibility and I don't think it's influenced Frank Darby. He just hasn't made the grade yet.

This rule potentially is a red flag for the SEC. They over sign and then sort out who is eligible in May through July. Won't work for them anymore with this small change in the rule. Most these kids retake classes in the spring and summer attempting to become eligible. A few retake either ACT or SAT to achieve eligibility. Basically it cuts a loophole out where Srs'. are taking freshman or sophomore level classes last semester of their senior year or after school is out to replace a poor grade to become eligible. No more- it leaves kids struggling to find junior college slots in the summer also.

Thanks for your reply. When the Iowa recruit named Darby put off signing to retake the SAT it reminded me that the new rules were possibly the reason. We will have to wait until September 1; or about, to know the impact.
