Q: Did PSU have their full team?

I seem to remember they had a key player injured. Is that correct? Or did they have their full team yesterday?

Full team, although its was discovered postgame (at least to media) that Chris Babb broke his finger coming into the game.

He only played the first half, as he was ineffective... shooting 0-6 from 3 pt land and not contributing anywhere else.

Looks like Iowa caught a break against PSU with Babb out. He was their second leading scorer (9 pts/game) on the team and shoots a lot of 3's. PSU also did not have anyone experienced to replace Babb from the outside from the looks of their lineup. But injuries are part of the game.

So Iowa played PSU at an opportune time. Maybe Iowa needed a little luck for a change. They needed a win.

I enjoyed the game although I don't think we ran any fast breaks, which is still disappointng for me. I was just trying to put the game into a little better persepective about whether PSU had their full team when we played them or whether they were a little shorthanded.

You might say, "Well, Iowa is shorthanded," but that is because of recruiting and other factors, not injuries. Injuries are a different story in my book.

Injuries are part of the game. Imagine how many more wins we might have has last year if Peterson and Tate stay healthy. That in turn maybe Kelly stays (I don't think Peterson would have no matter if we win more games).

Then how about Fuller being injured this year, and same with Archie. Does Archie in there help out our interior D (tough to know since we haven't seen him play)? Maybe with those two fully healthy we win a couple more early in the year.

So while yes we caught PSU without a player, you have to play the games with who you have. I would say that over the last 3 years that Iowa has been hit with the injury bug more so than the opponents they have played, speaking overall anyway.

Babb wasn't out. He was ineffective. Big difference.
It's not like last year Kelly was out with his broken finger. He still played.
That's the injury Babb has. Kelly was just able to effective with it, Babb wasn't.

Iowa is "less healthy" than PSU, so who got the better end of that deal?
I'm sure you are looking for ways to downplay the win, this isn't an avenue that's going to be very fruitful, though.

My goodness, let's grab at anything/everything we can, just to discredit or flame our team, even in a conference win! Un(fricking)believable.

Penn St. was a great win for this team. It will give the guys a bit of confidence going into the rest of the season.

It's too bad the next game has to be MSU on the road!!!

Don't be such a Debbie Downer.
So it's been 17 years since Iowa has won up there.
So Iowa is 0-14 since 1993 up in East Lansing.
So this is one of the worst team to head up to EL in that time span.
So this MSU team is ranked in the Top 10.

Oh, wait... what was I saying??? :)

This would likely be one of the biggest upsets of all-time for Iowa BB.
