Q&A with Ferentz - espn

Interesting question and the response from Ferentz:

I read your comments from the other day and wanted to clarify something. Did you expect to make some changes even if you didn't have the coordinators leaving?

KF: Absolutely....

What's interesting about it? He basically went on to allude to the fact that they were going to revisit playbooks and do some minor in house cleaning. He certainly wasn't insinuating he was looking to can either one of them.

Read between the lines and it's obvious Kurt was going to hand KOK his walking papers.

yeah, I read it as reviewing and tweaking plays/play calling and schemes type stuff, not changes to the staff.

this is how i have been taking it. he said in an interview they do it every yr but after awhile you have to take a longer look at things to see if bigger changes need to be made.

KF all but called out D Johnson. Basically says he's had a lot of time here and needs to step up and help this team.

Such a major 3 year period for Iowa football. Next year will be very rough as we all know but after that we know if the new coaches, highly rated underclassmen, and indeed Kirk himself can are the right fit for Iowa.

If we are looking at 10 wins 3 seasons from now I feel great about the future of the program, if not we get left in the dust of the the new superconference era and may never crawl out of it.

Glad it's happening but IMO it is clearly 1 or 2 years late. Like I said glad it's being done.

I didn't read anything suggestive of that.

His comment seemed like a direct challenge (in a good way) to DJ. Lets hope he takes it and runs with it, literally.

This was my favorite comment to read: "I think we're pretty much on the same page right now. It's been fun actually, just invigorating to re-examine some things."

This staff needed some major shakeup. Thirteen years with the same staff in place (for the most part) is an eternity in athletics today. You can't continue to grow and learn without opening up to new ways of thinking and bringing in people with new ideas ... This addition of Davis is going to be beneficial in several ways ...

I'm wondering and maybe he's already done this, but in regards to the roster, is trying to find out who wants to be here and who doesn't. He probably does this every year, including the coaches. All this change is like anything we do in life. What can be done to get better results.

Hawks might surprise a few people this year and here's hoping a few unfamiliar faces rise to the top. Could be a good year coming up.

I like the Brian and Woods hires, youthful and fresh ideas they will bring that to the table. when it comes to recruiting they will have a better connection with the kids they are recruiting IMO, both great additions to the staff.

I hope you're not expecting wholesale changes to either side. Especially the D.

I think it's going to be intriguing this year, if nothing else, to see what Ferentz allows the new OC to do with the offense.

There will be obvious changes on both sides especially offense. The offense will be vastly improved in major areas.
