PSU schadenfreude

Wow! I'm not even half way through it. Why would any legit head coach go work for that?
Yeah that makes me think two things...

1) Campbell says hell no after hearing it...

2) PSU uses that leaked audio to fire Kraft and still get Chicken Soup. Even better bring Pollard with him...

That is what I think whether they wanted Campbell or Pollard as part of it I don't know but I think for sure they leaked the call so they can fire him with cause and avoid more messy litigation. The guy sounds like a real tool.

So I doubt there's any validity to this, and it's probably just message board fodder, but my BIL said he's heard rumblings that the PSU boosters are done with the AD, and that they're trying to poach Campbell and Pollard as a package deal. Again, I wouldn't bet more than a dollar on this, but can you imagine the absolute meltdown in Ames if this happened...
That would be glorious.... If Santa grants my wish for Xmas this yr that happening would be it.

If Campbell is entertaining this, he either leaves or leverages ISU for a raise like Rhule did. Either way, ISU athletics is hurt by it and I love it!!!

PSU is an all-party consent state so maybe they couldn't fire Kraft for the call, but they could buy him out. I wonder what his buyout is...

Yes.

Scenario one, he leaves and it hurts ISU, and Campbell isn't going to do any better at PSU.

Scenario 2, he stays and hits ISU in the wallet, and PSU gets more gas dumped on the inferno.

Win/Win

The lawyers will find SOMETHING he did in the past to justify the 'for cause'. If not, the court of public opinion can weigh heavily on someone as well.

This is absolute solid gold.

It's the leaked audio from Pat Kraft everyone's talking about.

Jesus.
I mean, in his defense.....he's the AD at Penn State.
A storied football history from the grand old days with past histories of national championship.
One thing for Iowa to point to one or two championships, but they can point to 10 of them from days of yore. And a few legit ones within our actual lifetimes.

Penn State has just enough oomph to not "settle". But they are shy off the oomph to hang with OSU/Alabama/etc. Even short of Michigan in general.

You know that old saying that the bronze medalist is always the happiest? The silver winner thinks they're first loser. The gold medalist still doesn't feel they achieved their best? The bronze medalist is just happy to be on the podium. PSU feels they have to be on the podium. Deserve to be on the podium. But can't. Their fans, their program, their school....they are all that way. And that's why they have this guy as the AD. This is exactly what they ask for.

The buck stops with him. And to some extent, this is one kind of guy you can have to have to make that step. You don't HAVE to do it this way. There is the Ted Lasso approach. Or this guy's approach. I can't say he's wrong. It's just not for me.

I've lead competitive non-private corporate organizations (a musical 'team', if you will) before. You can run them as authoritarian, even as generally friendly benevolent dictators who just set high standards. But eventually, the commons will rebel and everything falls apart. And quickly, if you don't achieve immediate success. Or, you can be a softer leader who tries to build momentum, encourage success, and provide the tools to do so. In that case, your progress will be slower and the path to ultimate success is way way harder. The difference is, that way doesn't blow apart. It can slowly fade, but generally changes are made before ultimate implosion. And generally, people walk away from it with a decent amount of goodwill and friendships remain.

Does Campbell have kids?
Any which way this plays out, they're all probably getting Ferrari's for Christmas.

I listened to that entire audio, if Matt Campbell leaves ISU for that dumpster fire without Pollard then he is not as smart as I thought. This has to be all about leverage and MC getting more money out of ISU.

PSU is burning and I LOVE it, they deserve all of this after what they let slide during the Paterno years.

I am fully aware that what hurts ISU helps us...but I just can't bring it upon myself to wish harm on them (ducks from the incoming thrown objects). I have friends that have gone there or worked there, and I like having another competent program in state. I won't shed tears if Campbell leaves, but I kinda hope he stays.
