PSU is NOT the same team on the road that they are at home....

With their current makeup, PSU is damn near an impossible out at home....but they can absolutely be beat away from Happy Valley.

Last year, they lost at Pitt by 3....but the score was way closer than the game indicated. They were getting pounded pretty good thru 3 qtrs until a last minute flurry of points (18 in the 4th) got them close....but Pitt completely out played them.

They got completely blitzkrieged by Michigan 49-10....who of course we beat at home.

And at Indiana, while they ultimately won by 2 tds, it took a 24 point 4th quarter to do it as Indiana was leading by a td going into the 4th quarter.

At Purdue and at Rutgers can't even be considered as those teams were just bad.

But the 3 teams they played with a pulse on the road, they were outscored in the first 3 qtrs by a combined score of 94-45.

Our perception is tainted quite a bit by the whipping we took last year at Happy Valley....but with them coming to Kinnick, we've got more than a puncher's chance to upset them....

I think we have a chance if we can contain the scrambling tendency of the QB and keep Barclay under 125 rushing yards

You could be right, but so far, they've played 3 home games: 52-0, 33-14 & 56-0. At this point, I don't think we know how they are on the road.

Sure, he was talking about how they played significantly better at home than on the road last year. Obviously we don't have any road games to examine this year, so last year is the next best thing.

The quality of the teams is questionable. Hlas in the Gazette compared the RPI's or some measurement and it is really bad compared to even Iowa's so far. Iowa has a win over a rival on the road which bodes well. They are going to be tough to beat, but Iowa has a chance if the play a clean game and control the clock. This will mean they are running the ball well.

If I had to pick teams I thought have the ability to make it to the playoff, from the B1G, it's PSU and UM. PSU is playing better and more consistently than UM. I'm only saying that each season is different and it remains to be seen. Personally, I'll be satisfied with a good performance. I don't know that we can beat PSU. They have a juggernaut offense.

the teams psu has played: akron (0-2), pitt (1-2), and georgia state (0-2). team's psu has played have a combined record of 1-6. just say'n.

And if Iowa had beaten those same teams by identical scores we'd all be thinking Iowa is a very good team. That's all I'm saying. We don't know how good PSU will or won't be on the road. But I would guess they'll be really good.

And what exactly have we shown?

Defense started out strong against Wyoming, but got lit up against ISU. I don't even know what to call our effort against North Texas. I think we would all feel a lot better if we had produced wins like PSU

Our OL/DL have struggled, and I'm not sure they will gel in time for PSU. I think if they stay healthy they'll be pretty good by end of the year with Jackson and maybe Wirfs at Tackle.

We won't know until the game is played, but right now I can't see PSU being too worried

psu will be coming after Stanley because they know he'll fumble the ball when hit. All pass rush and it could be a good evening for the Hawks. I see a lot of dump offs for big yards. Fingers crossed.

And we will play "contain" on their QB and let him do his damage.

We are built to stop the run game and a scrambling QB. Have you seen our D line? It stays in its lanes and creates a nice pocket. No one will get outside that.
Our LBs will eat Barkley for dinner. He wont get near 125.

Let the arm of the QB beat us. Which I dont think it can.

We have shown that we do what it takes to win

Contain Barkley, don't let their big TE make pass plays and keep their QB in check & we win. I noticed that their run defense isn't the best

Its misleading to say the PSU-Pitt game was not close last year because thats what PSU did in many games last year. They fall behind early and score a flurry of points in the 2nd half. They just fell short against Pitt last year but against other teams they came from way back to win.

But they had a big comeback against Minnesota and won in OT. They fell way behind Wisc in the CCG and came back to win. Its what they do.

So they're 1-3 against the teams that aren't Penn State. Pretty small sample size. I'm not saying they are good. I'm just saying that almost half of the teams they played so far are against the number 4 team in the nation.

Iowa City will be the first hostile road environment they've faced since their loss @ Michigan last year. I'm hoping we can rattle McSorley a bit and prevent him from doing his stupid bat swing and salute.
