Thus far outside of Taylor I have not been all that impressed with what they have done tonight. Of coarse I am watching them on the Big Ten Network. Taylor is a beast!!! Got a nice standing o for his tech imagine Taylor you just got 4k plus to give you a standing o but if you were a Hawk you would have had 7k yelling for you.

They're definitely aggressive, and still attacking late in the 3rd. They're a bit overconfident though facing a lesser opponent. Not a bad problem to have as long as they adapt to the level of competition.

Oh my god Tobini, i can only imagine you're joking right? i mean you HAVE to be joking. what was not to like about them? Patakky didn't wrestle at 125, Long killed his guy and looked good. Alton dominated a very solid experienced guy in Nauman. Molinaro crushed his guy. David Taylor has 10 techs in 24 matches and as soon as he wresltes St. John that number will go to 11. He's a freak. He has the best ankle pick since his coach. Ruth is a dominator. Q. wright is a stud and has a proven it on a high level. And wade just beat the #3 guy. yeah, not real impressive.

I mean come on. We all like Iowa on here but a little objectivity won't kill you.

I hate saying this, but not only is PSU really freaking good, they are fun to watch! I never thought I'd say that about a Cael Sanderson team (again I think it refers to his recruiting, not his coaching). Throws, inside trips, cradles, attacking the entire match.

Also, remember Long's trip to the finals last year. He's good enough to be a national champ at 133 this year. He's still shaking the rust off right now and was still going hard at the end of the match.

Cael's not stupid...he knew exactly what he was doing, leaving Ames for Penn State. He could go to a program with top notch facilities in a recruiting rich area and wouldn't have to deal with being in a state where a instate rival casts a pretty big shadow

I'm not surprised one bit he's turning PSU into a power. They're really young too so don't expect them to fall down anytime soon

You're spot on about Taylor. I mean it's just ridiculous how good he is as a redshirt freshman.

so what are the match by match predictions?

I have tickets for this and I'm worried because I hate being outnumbered 4,000 to 1 and I have a feeling it won't go well for the hawks. But that said:

125 McD maj Pataky 4-0 (McD improves on last times result, If its martelotti or cashera, then fall for MCD)
133 Clark dec Long 7-0 (I like clark here because he knows Long from his last year at ISU)
141 Marion dec Alton 10-0 (Marion comes back with a bang, although if its ballweg, the win goes to alton)
149 Molinaro maj Ballweg 10-4 (remember the time Metcalf slammed molinaro... that was awesome)
157 Taylor dec St John 10-7 (DSJ can keep it close but taylor is the total package)
165 Jannsen dec Kemerer 13-7 (Jansen showed alot against sponseller)
174 Ruth dec Lofthouse 13-10 (Lofthouse is legit though, I think every rematch will be closer, but ruth could put up big points so a major isnt out of the question)
184 Wright dec Gambrall 13-13 (Gambrall has beat wright before but not on the road in a tight match)
197 Lofthouse maj Ruggear 17-13 (this is gonna be tough but lofthouse is a senior and he needs to step up he just got a big win against osu so a major isnt out of the question)
285 Wade dec Raising 17-16 (wade is definately better, but I dont see raising getting pinned, and wade isnt the type of heavyweight who runs up the score, so he'll be going for the fall and i think raising will be smart enough to stay out of trouble)

BUT this is all hanging on a win over andrew long, as well as holding taylor, wright, alton molinaro, and ruth to mere decisions. Lofthouse will need the bonus which could be tough but i think he and McD will step up and lead.

I would rather see Ramos vs Long...Clark doesn't have enough offense, despite being tough to score on.

Plus Ramos is coming off a good win, should have some confidence right now.

This is the argument we'll be having before every match, and the fact that clark has the lead in the head to head series hasn't disuaded this. But my reasoning is:

1. Clark is in every match, he seemingly stays close with national champions (nickerson and esco) as he does with backups, and the one match he was out of (oliver) he did exactly what was asked of him to help the team

2. Clark knows long from there days at iowa state, the reason long redshirted was because he couldn't beat clark

3. ramos does have an offense but the third period against paddock he took his foot off the accelerator and while it was a big win I didn't like the way he ended it, he had a chance to seperate and i felt he didnt take it

4. clark is a veteran and in a huge match like this you gotta go with experience

all that said I believe that all three of Iowas 133's are capable of beating long. Long only been in the PSU room for one month which i feel will be a factor

See that's the reason I'd favor Ramos. Long is a stud, but i wonder if his lungs are ready to go 7 minutes hard yet after the layoff. I know Ramos did relax a little at the end of the match, but it'll be a good coaching point for him. Long is so talented i think that if you don't put tons of pressure on him he'll just pick you apart. Just like what happened against Oliver.

The end result being its a great problem to have, its like having a bullpen and being able to play matchup in the later innings.

This is the reason we should have gone to the national duals. Our schedule just isn't very tough. At this point we're down to 7 matches until Big tens, it's time to put out the guy whether it's Ramos or Clark. If we wrestle Clark against Long, then put Ramos in the Big tens and NCAA's, we screwed Ramos out of seeing the two best in the weight class.

they are beatable and i think brands will have them ready...each individual has to concentrate on themselves...time to starting training harder and watching film on these guys

I kind of agree with CRwrestling- with not going to the Nat. Duals and alternating guys in and out at weight classes. Our strength of schedule is going to kill us at Nations. Our RPI- even with a good big tens - are going to be down and we ALL know- SEATINGS are BIG at the Nationals.
