PSU and ISU schadenfreude

ISU elects not to go bowling

So I dunno how this works.
My wife just asked "Don't they lose a whole bunch of money not going to a bowl?"

My assumption is...
-a lot of the money is distributed to the conference
-direct money is offset by not insignificant cost of transport, staff and team support costs, etc

The players clearly have say in a way they never have before.

So, pretty easy for a school to say "Yeah, we lose a net of a couple million...which won't make or break us. A couple of players are likely to sit out anyway...and even more may hit the portal if we piss em off and make them. This could be a real poop show for jusylt a couple million. And extra practice time is meaningless with a new coach and philosophy coming in."

Wonder when they’re going to start demolishing CyTown.

I heard you can get one of those big condos on Zillow for $95,000 for a 50 year lease. Snow removal not included.

So, I was never sure about CyTown. My Cyclone nephews were telling me you can't really "live" in those apartments. They're like just for game weekend or something? I mean, yes...it's a development in a college town. But still, it's trying to leverage it's value on what amounts to 6 or 8 weekends a year.

Yeah, it's gotta feel great to uproot your wife and kids to come to a place where on Dec. 6 there's 17 inches of snow on the ground, it was -15 a couple days before, and oh yeah, the team is so excited about you as their new coach that they want to welcome you by saying they have no interest in playing in a bowl game.

With all due respect to the poster, Pollard is doing something right: the men's bball team is a Top 10 team and just punked the #1 team by 25 pts on their home court; the women's bball team is a Top 10 team. Their wrestling team is Top 5 in the nation. The football team was at one time ranked in the Top 15 this season before finishing 8-4. Individual coaches always want 'more', whether it be cash or control. It's Pollard's job to look at the big picture -- and their teams are doing beyond OK.

Pollard definitely can point to a record of success. Over the past five years or so, ISU probably has enjoyed what I predict will be the zenith of it's sports success across the major programs.

ISU doesn't have the market and panache to sustain that level of success long-term. A natural regression over time most likely will occur, but if Pollard can't reign in his ego and need for control, he'll grease the skids in a big way.

Not rallying behind Jon Heacock to coach in the bowl game tells me a lot. It tells me at 12:01, January 2nd, a bunch of those dudes are going to scatter.

Pullman Washington gets as much snowfall as Ames does. It's not exactly paradise. I've been there. But I get your point.
The part that I find laughable is that ISU had to pay WSU more for Rogers, than PSU did to ISU for Campbell.
