Pryce staying home!

I expect Iowa to be at least on the bubble next season if not comfortably in and that's without knowing the roster. I know that Koch and Bennet are rock solid foundations to build around. I also expected a complete exodus of the team. I also think that the guys who have entered or decommitted over the last week or so were by design or Iowa said "thanks but no thanks", we have a new direction now.

It's ridiculous if that is true that it took a threat like that to get him out of Iowa City. Just the results were justification for getting rid of him.

This situation is different in that Ben hasn't done anything wrong to deserved this level of defections. Where is $chool pride and $chool loyalty with these player$

If they are all that shallow then they can go to hell for all I care.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but who says defections have to be a bad thing. We want Ben to have his guys here playing his system. If we're being honest those very same players "defecting" were also part of the reason Fran didn't get the results needed to keep his job and was terminated. If Ben wants those guys there's nothing wrong with Ben having to re-recruit them, because they're not his guys. That doesn't mean they're shallow or there's no pride. To be completely fair they may have no idea if there's even a place in Ben's system for them or what their role/value would be at that point.

I wish the players leaving and Fran the best, btu if they leave they leave. It has nothing to do with loyalty or school spirit. They gave what they had to the coach and school that recruited them. Things have changed and they need to do what's in the best interest for themselves, just like the University did what was in the best interest of the program when they let Fran go.

If they didn't put they names in the portal when they did, there is no telling what they could possibly miss out on. You call it shallow I call it proactive. They owe the program just as much as the program owes them. It's not fair to call them shallow, because they want to do what's best for themselves rather than waiting around to find out if they even have a place in Ben's system.

Let it play itself out. And to be honest, they're being called out now for not having "school pride" or "school loyalty" but then they'd be called stupid later if they stuck around and the program didn't fit their skill sets and things didn't pan out.

I saw that Indiana lost every single player on their roster to the portal.
I saw that as well. In my opinion to blindly put faith in a new hire without talking to them or exploring options isn't a matter of loyalty, but rather an individual lack of intelligence. There's absolutely nothing wrong with players taking a step back, and entering the portal, to carefully assess their options. They can always return if that's what's in their best interest and the best interest of the program going forward.

Yup. Blaming or shaming the players ‘ decisions is nonsense.

There were a number of teams in the tourney this year that had new coaches and completely turned over rosters from the previous season. Drake was one of them.

The portal presents extensive opportunities to quickly rebuild a roster.

exactly, I expect Iowa to be good at Basketball and to be competing to play in the NCAA tournament every season. Year 15 or year 1, we are a B1G institute. That is the top of the food chain. Iowa's baseline expectation should be NCAA every year. Now, if you miss it, that doesn't always mean fire the coach - it means, you start to ask why? Is it year 1 and a completely new roster? If so, then I say, that is probably all the explanation ya need...but I still expect them to at least compete and be in the mix when the EOY comes. That should be the baseline expectation at Iowa IMO.

I know we've mostly touted our incoming decommitted recruits, but I've sometimes wondered just how good they were. If they were all that good, they would have been going somewhere that was going to pay them some serious NIL $$.

I would guess BM and staff, if it exists, is watching a lot of film to see who they want and don't want. I'm also assuming, but don't really know, that Fran's staff is probably still on payroll until July 1 (end of contract periods I think) so BM could talk to them about the old roster players and the recruits. Haven't I read here in HN that Spurlock was the recruiting guru on Fran's staff? Hopefully he's still around to answer questions.

Speaking of the staff, I'd guess we will be learning who they are shortly. BM said last week that he hoped to have his staff in place by the end of last week. He said he'd be bringing 3-4 from Drake and adding a couple more. Anybody heard anything?

Oh I didn't. I thought most of us saw that coming. And frankly this program needed being gutted and rebuilt. But I figured most everyone would do what they did. Let Ben cherry pick the guys he'd like to try and bring back and rerecruit the Kochs, Sandforts and Dixs. It sounds like Dix is having fun taking vistits so I'm not getting hopes up on him returning. I wasn't even if Fran had been back in his case.

This is yr 1 of a total rebuild so yeah we shouldn't expect him to do what he just did at Drake. That'd be nuts. I'm here for it if it does but my gosh that's unrealistic. The guy is 43 and should hopefully be here a long long time. He's gonna get till yr 3 before some results need to be demanded before pitchforks come out I would hope. If he does exceed expectations he could have us in the dance in 2 yrs though. The portal just makes flipping rosters so much quicker

Certainly seems like that

We will have to be patient, but I do believe that we will Compete

If she struggled with things in her marriage I hope she kept a lid on it.
