Pro day

Many others seem to agree, such as Morehouse and Dochterman. So why was Kirk right to keep Fant off the field?
Looks like Hockenson is the better TE so....you know we run 60% of the time....seems like logic. We dont have to run 2 TE sets all the time...so having the best TE on the field means Hock, not Fant. I sure hope there was some bitterness as well because if it was my program, ANYONE who makes negative noise would be riding pine. Case in point, at this level, by God we have someone to step in who is as good or better in this case. You are either with us or against us. Addition by subtraction. Its not uncommon from effective leaders. Belichick would cut his @ss if he didnt fall in line. Lombardi traded his best OL in his first season because he questioned him. It happens.

This argument doesn't add up--many others have already sniffed it out. Kirk said Fant didn't play (i.e. only six snaps in second half of Penn State game) because he didn't fit the scheme. When you have a player as dynamic as Fant, you adjust the scheme and get him in there--at TE, Wideout, H-back, wherever. To not have him on the field was a crime and it wasn't because "he didn't fit the scheme"--that's thinly veiled Kirk-talk.

I don't think it was just Fant's brother who said things...I'm sure Fant expressed his discontent too--this is probably what got him cuffed.
Ill add the Steelers to my previous examples of successful coaches or organizations rewarding or seeking players who toe the company line. Talent is one thing, trust is another. If you've coached above pee wee level you understand. Anyone who allows or contributes to treason is not trustworthy regardless of how talented he is. Antonio Brown and Leveon Bell. One of the most successful organizations in the Super Bowl era and they sit two All-Pros. Its not unprecedented. Ocho Cinco. Terrell Owens. Scores of other major talents that get cut or dont play because of the affect on team moral or discipline. Maybe Fant isnt as active in acting out, as far as we know, but if there is a supremely talented alternative and you dont trust a guy who doesnt come out 100% in support of the team or coaching staff...not playing him is honorable and respectable.

Pro day is today.

The media will be talking with the guys at around 12:30. Will post interviews info when I get back this afternoon.
I always like those graphics they put together for each guy. Our football media team does a great job.

Is there an official list somewhere of all the participants? I'm guessing all the combine invitees and all of the Srs who played a role.

If I'm Hockenson and Fant, I'd be eating Doritos and drinking Coke on the sideline with a big box of donuts nearby. No way do you disrupt the unprecedented performances at the Combine. You can only lose money at this point.

They probably hand a list to the scouts but not public/media.

Like last year when Fant stood out, I would expect AJ Epenesa to turn some heads today, leading to much hype heading into next year's draft.

Ah Jrs get to test out as well?

I never knew that but I guess it makes sense and couldn't hurt. Thanks Rob.

Wiegers especially. That's pretty cool the staff welcomed him back though. Don't see anything wrong with it at all and think it's pretty cool. Vandeburg I haven't heard anything about lately. Glad he's in shape and giving the NFL a shot. Why not?

Wiegers had a good year at Eastern Michigan. Especially considering EMU's pass blocking was downright scary, and we ain't talking the good kind of scary either.

Nice to see Matt Vandeburg getting a shot. He wasn't anywhere near 100 percent his senior year after fracturing his foot twice the year before.

Hockenson, maybe but probably not. Fant--that's a no for sure. Isn't he sort of persona non grata around the Iowa facilities right now? Not DJK bad, but he didn't leave seeing eye-to-eye with the Ferentz master blaster duo.
Odd that Fant is staying in IC and working out with the team until the draft if he is such a persona non grata....

I will play devil's advocate, because it is fun.

What helps out the Iowa program more:
1. Coaches coming out and saying Fant's injury was more serious than they let on. This saves face, but it damages the pro potential of a player all the coaches have said wonderful things about. Possibly dropping a first rounder to the 3rd or worse round?
Or
2. Let the coaches take a little heat while protecting a kid and his future and getting 2 TEs into the first round discussion?
