Preview, Prediction: Iowa Looking to Tame Wildcats

I hate this game (Northwestern). I don't see how anyone can ever predict a winner in this match-up. Illinois, Purdue...even Minnesota, every year, yup we should win. Even though we are seven games into the season I will admit to being clueless on how this game will turn out, and which NW team will show up.

"Wildcats are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record."

Hawks are 1-1 on the road. Are you counting that as a winning road record?

One cannot discount the fact Fitz hates....*hates* Iowa to this day for what happened 20+ years ago.

He always has his boyz up for this one. I've seen many a debacle in person in Evanston (97, 99, 05, etc).

No cakewalk here. 23-20 sounds pretty convincing.

I'll anxiously await kickoff thinking I'll see something different (as I do for every game), and after the first offensive series realize it's the same old thing and wonder what they did for 2 weeks to prepare.

We gotta get pressure on the QB but I don’t see that happening. Lose by single digits, otherwise known as the “Ferentz”

I'm with you, Seth. I always have the "Fitz Factor" in the back of mind.

I had won three in a row before last year's second-half meltdown and destroyed the Cats two years ago in Evanston. That makes me feel better about this one.

If Iowa can find a way to win this - I am pretty optimistic about 4-2 down the stretch. Lose it and I won't be. Big game for the Hawks.

Last year's game was such a strange one. The huge special teams plays early, I felt like it was over in the first 10 minutes. I'm surprised we kept it that close, it was a one man show for Austin Carr who thankfully has graduated.

Nothing compares to the '10 shit show. Was living in Chicago at the time. My folks and my in-laws came up and went to the game with us. Watching what seemed like the 2467424th 4th quarter collapse of the year in the rain was beyond infuriating. Then that pass cross-body cross field TD Persa threw as he tore his ACL or whatever made me want to puke. Then had to take the train 40mins back to our place while jammed in with a ton of equally pissed off Hawk fans.

Iowa has no business losing this game....Fitz factor or not. KF should be very motivated to win this. Fitz doesn't play. NW has 1 decent win against a Maryland team searching for a QB.

The game opened in Vegas as a pick’em and now has Iowa a 1-point favorite. Basically it’s a toss-up game.

Iowa has no business losing to Illinois or Rutgers. Northwestern is a good program that’s recruited pretty well with a good coach and identity. This isn’t the ‘80s.

Based on their results this year...no. Vegas knows the history. Iowa should be so much deeper. This is ultimately the struggle of the program. A 20 year coach should be on par with Wisky with some ups and downs warranted. Anyway my opinion. Got to had it to Fitz, he's done well with his limitations.

Being a Hawk fan I'll predict them to win, barely. Final score something like 20-17

But it'll be brutal to watch. We'll probably see the same issues in this game as we've seen all year (and over the last decade with KF ball)

Start out slow
Lopsided TOP to NW
Defense on field too much (see above)
Struggle to cross midfield
Losing at Halftime
Defense creates turnovers
Offense scores off turnovers
Frantic last two minutes of game -- Needing a defensive stop, or offense trying to score

I know I said Hawks win, but it could go either way. Most of us fans will be annoyed, and others will tell us this is classic KF football and it's as good as it'll ever get

Yeah, how could I forget the 2010 travesty? I have about a zillion pictures of me, my daughter, my brother, his daughter at the game. Not a very happy homecoming afterwards.

Why should Iowa be so much deeper?

It's not because of the in-state talent. Fitz can fall out of bed and find more recruits than he would be able to in Iowa. It's a matter of population.

In fact, Iowa was among the favorites for the QB and RB it will see this week. They ended up staying home and choosing Northwestern. It have quite a few recruits that chose the Wildcats ahead of schools like Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

Northwestern also is in the middle of a major facilities upgrade. Fitz is the second longest tenured coach in the conference.

As I said, this isn't the '80s Northwestern.
