Actually, Alvarez is smart and this is a smart move.

It might look arrogant on the surface, but he knows damn well he's going to get the donations.

People who can afford $3-4K every year for two football tickets and a parking pass, plus the expense of travel, tailgating, etc. can afford the donation and they will pay it. If we're being honest, a huge portion of season ticket holders at any top 25-ish program wouldn't even notice five grand missing from their checking accounts. They're also offering double priority points which is a big ass deal to a lot of people, especially those who plan on keeping them for their kids/grandkids.

It will also be a keeping up with the Joneses thing where people will want to be part of the crowd that rallied 'round the family in a time of need (as Barry is making it out to be). The rich and semi-rich folk will look at it as a feather in their cap that they took one for the team back in '20.

Beautiful move by Alvarez, here. Agree with it or not he'll get that money. Iowa should have hired his ass long before KF and Farta.

The timing was never right for Barry to be head coach here. He wasn’t going to wait for (defensive coordinator) Bill Brashier to retire, let alone Hayden. Lou Holtz promised Barry something that Hayden couldn’t-a shot at defensive coordinator within one year. So Barry bolted. Perhaps Bill Snyder would have promoted Alvarez to DC when Bill took the Kansas State job in 1989, but Barry couldn’t have foreseen that when Holtz and Norte Dame came calling in 1986.

Barry was in the prime years of his head coaching career when Hayden finally did retire and no way was he leaving what he had built in Madison to start over in Iowa City.

Unless he was also offered dual Head Coach/Athletic Director. That was a possibility, and a big reason he had turned down offers from the Miami Hurricanes and Philadelphia Eagles. But Barry and his wife Cindy were happily rooted in Madison. And Iowa wasn’t progressive enough to consider such a bold, out of the box move. He wasn’t coming back to Iowa.

Intelligence plus arrogance usually does equal success however. It has been proven time and again in the sales and business worlds, and in this case the sports world, and Barry has both.

Any time a study comes out about how these property destroying hooligans were not spreading the virus with their peaceful protesting I see red.

You want to erase history? Fine. This country has a lot of bad history. But don’t be high and mighty about it and say you weren’t potentially transmitting because you weren’t properly masking or social distancing.

Now polls are coming out that fewer than half of Americans would get the vaccine even if was available.

This virus is going to run its course at its own pace. Don’t fear it, and don’t listen to those who spread fear. Any media story that doesn’t list the recovery rate of recovery curve is worthless and not worth reading or watching.

Extra unemployment to keep landowners from defaulting? Deal with non socialist railroad police sometime (ag related). Even the CN RR cops are difficult from more socialist Canada.

Roosevelt had to get the federal government involved because that was the only way to get people working again. Many dams were built during the FDR years among other things.

The interstate highway system, a dream of Eisenhower’s in response to the roads Hitler built in Germany, really flourished during the JFK/Lyndon Johnson years.

Erase history? What the hell are you even talking about. Pretty sure the people protesting aren't saying they didnt spread the virus, it's the analysts and statisticians. It's amazing how people just believe whatever they want when the preponderance of proof shows the exact opposite. Unbelievable.
