You can always blow a late whistle, you can't un-blow a whistle. There is nothing wrong with being patient with a whistle. This has been a very very physical game, but it's been a consistently physical game, on both sides.

there's another by Valentine. It almost seems like he waits to see if the ball goes in before he calls a fouls.

Back in the old days, when someone smacked your arm while shooting a 3 it was called a foul. I'd take my chances with Gatens shooting free throws to tie the game.

Its not really that hard to see that this is exactly what he's doing.
Hey make the points and no big deal but missing caused by a foul then we need to fix that. Makes it real easy for a player to know what a foul is.

Right, Kaldenberg.

The Big ten told their officials to throw the game to MSU.

Do some of you ever listen to yourselves. Do you think they tell the officials how to call a game so the better team will beat the lesser team? I mean, there may be officiating bias, but conference officials are hardly sitting around telling officials how to call games. Do you even think an official talks to anyone from the conference on a regular basis? At most they talk to the conference's head of officials. Do you think that guy is telling them how to call a game?

I haven't seen any replies on this thread. But, I will just say it is an idiotic post at best, based upon my reply.

I would say it was consistent for the most part, but not consistently good. Basabe was called for a few fouls on clean blocks. They messed up a few calls giving michigan state the ball out of bounds when they had touched it last. A few possessions COULD have changed the outcome of the game. I also felt like they made it pretty hard to defend green. They weren't too willing to call him for lowering his shoulder to knock the defender over. Technically that should be called a charge. I'm not saying iowa would have won the game if the game would have been called perfectly... But I do feel michigan state benefited by the reffing. Overall I was proud of how iowa played. I once again excited for iowa basketball.

Dude are you on crack. Basabe earned every single one of his fouls, and maybe two or three more.

No, I'm not on crack. His he was called on block later on the game that contained a lot less contact than some of the "blocks" that happened on the other end of the court. Notice I didn't say basabe didn't deserve ANY fouls. And one of the times I remember one ref calling it on basabe but the other official said it was on cole instead. I'm not saying they were awful or lost us the game. I was saying that I felt the way the game was called favored michigan state and green I'm particular. He was able to knock down planted defenders multiple times by lowering his shoulder without getting called for a charge. But I liked how they let cole use his body to play defense against him. It just favored green due to his size/body.

Green didn't get called for charging because we didn't play sound enough defense against him. That's on us not the officials.

There were some missed calls towards the end, but that's typical. I wish all of the NCAA officials would make end of game calls a point of emphasis. With the St. Johns' debacle and poor officiating in general in the final minute, it really messes thing up.
