Just wondering who everyone thinks we might get to fill our last two scholarships with? I know that we might save one but I hope we at least use one on a big guy.

Thanks

I will be very disappointed if both scholarships aren't used for next year. McCaffrey said last night that he wants to get a big for sure and the best guard available (combo, point, shooting, etc.). We need two court ready guys with those two spots, or we will be in for another last place finish in the big ten.

My current hope: Walter Pitchford and Darius Smith or Chris Colvin...Pitchford is playing at a prep school instead of enrolling at DePaul,so he is a year out of HS,and the other two are jucos who should be ready to contribute immediately.
Both of the spring signees need to be ready play immediately.

Pitchford, in the clip I saw of him looked very good on the offensive end of the court and would be a great addition imo. However, I don't think anyone has a real clue, maybe not even the coaches, who will eventually sign with the Hawks. I am really anxious to see who the additions will be as they will probably have a big impact on how many games the Hawks win overall and where the Hawks finish next year in the B10 standings.

Chris Colvin from Chicago originally enrolled at ISU, played PG his freshman year than transfered out to a JUCO.

Walter Pitchford is a big man at 6'9 who signed his LOI for DePual but backed out and is at a Prep. Good offer list according to Rivals

Darius Smith is a PG from Chicago who signed his LOI at UCONN before going to a JUCO.

Didn't Chris Colvin fizzle out at ISU?

I'd be happy with Stokes/Carter and then Pitchford/Katenda/Olsesani

I have watched Smith since he was starting as a frosh on Marshall HS state tourny team. He has always been an elite defender, and was always assigned to the best offensive playmaker on the other side, like Sherron Collins or Derrick Rose.
He was incredibly mature physically for a frosh, and was not out of place on a team with Patrick Beverly and other good players. I always hoped that Iowa would get him.
He is an all court, all around player who can defend, dribble, finish, assist and rebound.
He is the nephew of Dorothy Gaters, all time girls HS coach at Marshall HS.

Colvin is blazing fast, and a very nice sized guard at 6'3''...clearly would be worthy of an offer,if he has matured off the court and on...very skilled, tho.
Either guy,if they are team players, would add much needed quicks and athleticism to Iowa's perimeter corp.

Darius Smith was involved in a serious auto accident (Luke Recker) and apparently is still suffering from the injuries he sustained. Will he ever be 100% again is anyone's guess.

That is new info....puts him in a different light. Good to know.

Darius Smith has some serious athletic ability:

He is just a guard, and can play any of the 3 guard positions. Never was a great shooter, but does everything else. I think he would help Iowa in many of the ways they are lacking...specially perimeter defense and toughness.

Iowa recruited him out of HS,so he knows Iowa.
