Predicting the Big Ten Tournament Seeding (3/6/2013)

Indiana hasn't lost 2 in a row all season. I will take them to win the conference outright with a win over Michigan this weekend. They won at MSU this year for the 1st time since 1991 so I'm not concerned with Michigan being at home. If Indiana opts to make use of Zeller he should have a huge game.

Side Note - We all have to remember that the 2nd round game could be the toughest game prior to the finals. Minnesota and Illinois could win their 2nd round games giving us another preferable (IMO) matchup...yet a nice RPI boost. There are so many ways this all could go. I'm not going to presume to know our Saturday opponent until it's settled on day 2 of the BTT...assuming we handle our Friday business.

My thoughts:

1. NW is our best matchup in round one...please let it happen.
2. Wisky is our best matchup in round two...please let this happen.
3. Next best is probably MSU...they are not playing great right now. OSU is clearly gelling as a team right now,and more dangerous than Wisky and MSU.

Sam Thompson is starting to hit jumpshots on the road...danger. Aaron Craft is starting to hit jump shots.
Lenzelle Smith is hitting jumpers. Scott and Ravenol are scoring some....and then there is Thomas.
OSU is a sleeper to get to the FF....just watch. Do not want to play them. Appling of MSU is in a funk...would prefer them to OSU.

This isn't necessarily a prediction....more like what I'd like to see happen:

Indiana beats Michigan. MSU beats Wisky and beats NW. Wisky loses to MSU and beats PSU. Mich beats Purdue and loses to Indiana. OSU loses to Illinois. Iowa beats Nebraska. Minnesota loses @ Neb and @ Purdue. If that happens, then the following are the seedings:

1. Indiana - 14-4
2. MSU - 13-5
3. Wisky - 12-6
4. Michigan - 12-6
5. OSU - 12-6
6. Iowa - 9-9
7. Illinois - 9-9
8. Purdue - 8-10
9. Minn - 8-10
10. Neb - 5-13
11. NW - 5-13
12. PSU - 1-17

Wisky gets the #3 by virtue of being 2-1 against OSU & Mich and then 1-0 against Indiana (Mich is also 2-1 against that group but would be 1-1 against Indiana). This would set up a 1st round match up against NW and then a 2nd round matchup against Wisky. In addition, we'd have the "prestige" of being at the top of the "2nd tier" of teams after the top 5 ranked teams. Would be awesome if everything fell this way....

One piece down (Neb over Minn).

So tonight we want MSU to beat Wisky.

Saturday, we want PU to beat Minny (and Iowa to beat Nebby, obviously).

Sunday we want Wisky over PSU, Illinois over OSU, Indiana over Mich and MSU over NW.

If that happens, we get NW, Wisky then MSU or Illinois. Couldn't ask for a better scenario.

Thank you for this. I was wondering what needed to happen to have Wisky slotted at the 3 spot in Chicago. So far so good in that regards. Go Sparty tonight.
