Predict next years depth chart

QB- Petras

RB- Goodson

WR- Smith
WR- ISM
WR- Tracy

TE- LaPorta
TE- Beyer / Lachey

LT- Kallenberger
LG- Britt
C- Linderbaum
RG- Schott
RT- TBD (Plumb / Miller / ???)

DE- Waggoner
DT- Nixon
DT- Lee
DE- Golston (hopefully)

Pass rushing specialist - Evans

LB- Colbert
MLB- Campbell (please god over Doyle)
LB- Niemann (keep an eye on Jestin Jacobs)
Cash- DJ Johnson / Merriweather

CB- Hankins
CB- Brents / Moss
Nickel- Moss / DJ Johnson

S- Stone (hopefully)
S- Belton

I’m assuming AJE, Wirfs, and Jackson go... honestly don’t think it would be surprising if Golston does. Stone wouldn’t be a high pick but at the same time doesn’t have a lot to prove at this level.

The offense would definitely have some playmakers if Petras can spread it around. The OLine would be a question mark but I think could be sneaky good. Defense would be solid again, lose a little bit on the Dline but the backend would have a ton of experience.

Can you ever remember an Iowa team returning so much production at WR and RB with a new QB?

Iowa will return basically every RB/WR/TE that made an impact this season.

The key will of course be what AJE, Wirfs, Jackson, Gholston, and Stone do. Any of them that return is basically like Iowa getting a 5 star recruit.

So next year is "The Year?" Oh that's right, a new, game unproven QB...

No. Next year's excuse is already in place.

Just asking a question. I don't remember this scenario taking place at Iowa in which they lost a QB but returned everyone else on offense at the skill spots.

I’m of the belief that there has been a nice uptick in recruiting over the last few cycles and we are going to continue to see Iowa put out some talented ball clubs. Obviously we need that to translate into wins but I think it’s very possible.

It would be awesome if one of the main three returned, but probably unlikely. Give me Golston and Stone back and we know the defense is in good hands.

I think your projections a pretty close. It would surprise me if any of the NFL type guys stay. Pretty tough to turn down millions for a pocket change stipend from the NCAA.

While Iowa will be good at WR, RB, the offensive line is once again going to be the focus. Losing a lot of talent there. Petras looks to be more mobile than Stanley. In addition to some good WRs Petras should have some seasoned TE's to throw to.

Defensively losing AJ hurts, not only for what he does, but for the attention that teams give him. It's not very often they run to his side, and he occupies the extra blocker. On the other hand, Iowa's interior defensive line with be older and larger.

Again the schedule does Iowa no favors. Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State as cross over games.

Cole Banwart is a jr this year so I would suspect he'll start next year assuming he's healthy.
Nixon and Schulte probably your starting dt's. Schulte was all over the field when in there replacing reiff.
i think geno is gone so probably Koerner and Merriweather as your starting safeties with belton playing the cash.or I could see belton getting one of those two spots instead of Merriweather. we have an insane amount of depth at corner and safety. I think building up the cash will happen in offseason. Roberts, harris, belton, brents, moss, hankins, Koerner have all played significant snaps. Starting corners brents and hankins, with moss/harris/Roberts at nickel. DJ or belton at cash, with Koerner, Merriweather starting camp on top of depth chart at safety. But.....I think castro or craddieth takes one of their jobs by the third game.
I think Chauncey is gone, but I think aj shocks the world and comes back. aj and vanvalkenberg as your starting de's. if aj does go pro, waggoner and vanvalkenberg at end, Nixon and Schulte up the middle, Shannon, hunt, and evans first dlineman off the bench.

Gersonde at punter, keith Duncan going after his second straight groza, and shudak doing kick offs.
What i'm most worried about is long snapper where both subbert and vejovoda are both seniors.

I think Wirfs is the one most likely to return. AJ Jackson has already been here 4 years, will likely have his degree, and experienced an injury-scare this year.

Obviously AJE loves being a Hawkeye, but the constant double-teaming this year has to be frustrating.

I think Wirfs is actually projected the highest out of all of them, but it seems like he truly loves college.

If all of them went, and all got drafted high, that would be awesome and a great story. Iowa could keep touting their NFL-pipeline on the recruiting trail, and I think that has been working. Whatever these young men decide, good for them.

Geno isn't leaving early. He's a great safety but it's gonna be a Desmond King situation where they al knock his speed and size and he falls to one of the later rounds.

I think this is pretty close except for a few changes. Assuming Jackson, Wirfs, Epenesa and Golston all leave (I doubt Stone declares, but I wouldn't be shocked if Nixon does):

QB - probably Petras, but don't be surprised if Padilla makes a big run at it. He's got a great skill set and KOK really likes him.

RB - Goodson obviously. I've got a feeling that IKM will show well next year if he doesn't bolt.

WR - Smith and ISM will start at the beginning, but they are going to be pushed hard, and slot will be a lot of competition with Tracy, Martin and Ragaini.

TE - LaPorta. Beyer will get every chance at the #2, but, Miamen easily could beat him out.

OL - This will be interesting. A lot of guys got good experience this season, and I think we'll see a lot of rotating again.
LT - Kallenberger (He was playing out of position this year and will look better at tackle.) Plumb, Miller and Endres will be pushing.
LG - Banwart will be given every chance by Kirk and will start early, but Britt is the better option.
C - Linderbaum
RG - Schott. He was terrible in pass-pro yesterday, but the coaches love him. Needs a lot of strength.
RT - One of the three listed pushing Kallenberger

DB - The most difficult to predict, IMO. Could mix and match any number of combinations. Hankins and Stone will start. After that? Anyone's guess. Brents needs to be on the field. He's just too talented. Moss and Johnson have proven they belong. Tough choices for Phil here.

LB - Colbert is the only for-sure. I think Kirk will find a way to start Wade (gut instinct). Niemann, Doyle, Campbell and Jacobs all will push.

DL - Waggoner and Evans (assuming he bulks up) at end. Nixon and Schulte inside. Shannon, VanValkenburg and Lee all will be in the rotation. Need one or two more bodies to step up here. This position is my biggest worry heading into the off-season. Just too much attrition over two seasons.

Britt is not a tackle. I’d be shocked if he isn’t starting at one of the guard spots next year.

Schulte has not impressed me at all. He knows what he’s doing but just don’t think he’s super talented. If Logan Lee can put on the weight I think he ends up as the starter at DT. The coaches still speak incredibly high of him and there is a reason they moved him there. Also keep an eye on the incoming 4* Army All American Logan Jones to maybe crack the two deeps. I do think Shannon will be much improved and ready to impact the rotation.

Wade to me is almost an afterthought at LB. Colbert and Niemann have so much experience on the outside. We’ve heard some good things about Benson and Jacobs on the rise. The middle looks like Campbell and Doyle for the next several years.

It’s just really hard to say. He’s definitely a less twitchy athlete than Hooker and Hooker only got picked in the 4th round. Would be great having Geno’s leadership back next year.
