Pre-emptive FIRE GREG DAVIS thread

Maybe you're 'madness' is misplaced? Shouldn't it go to the run coordinator, OP? The O Line couldn't create any holes in the interior of the defense of MSU (the one time they did, Canzeri got rolled up on). It looked like our best edge threat, Wadley, was still hobbled with his injury. The O Line needs some D1 tackles to impede an opponent's pass rush (which makes it hard for CJ to survey the field or pass long and gets him sacked). Hence, short, sometimes 'horizontal' passes. BTW, one of those horizontal passes to Vandy gained over 10 yards and a first down. CJ had to get the ball out of his hand quickly because of the pass rush. Later in the game when Iowa double teamed their defensive ends to give CJ more time to survey the field, that took a tight end out of the pass pattern. When the O Line tried that 'special' pass blocking play that involved the tight end to block down, MSU stopped it cold.

See, I've just enumerated a few ways Iowa, er Brian and Greg, tried to compensate for MSU's defensive pressure.

MSU put more pressure on our offense than any other team. They took out our best runner. Didn't give CJ much time to make a play. Clogged up the middle. Pressure and 'loud steps' caused some dropped balls. Particularly that interception in the end zone that Kittle should've caught for a touchdown. Hard hits caused fumbles. The K-Coble fumble might've been prevented with some 'fumble prevention' practice by Davis and his staff.

Even though it is a troll, I'll bite in this thread, and also keep advancing this:

The plan was always to get Brian into the OC seat. No better time than the present if you ask me. Greg had a great year, and can go out on a high note. Yet schematically this offense needs changes to it's passing game, and it is time that Brian is the OC.

Good Lord. This thread should need a "WARNING" notification attached to it. It's a Who's Who of trolls, negative-nancys and angry-anti-KF folk.

This is funny. The thread's title talks about firing Greg Davis and someone has interjected the "angry-anti-KF folk".
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Iowa needs to recruit some fast receivers with stickum and put them in the lineup posthaste.

I don't agree with you much but we will need a couple WR to emerge. It will be the biggest holes to fill, provided Ott and King return, along with interior Oline.

Really hoping J. Smith and Scheel can develop and be the guys.

With Davis calling the plays we could have Jerry Rice, Randy Moss and Dez Bryant out there and it wouldn't matter.

Davis called a much better game than KoK ever would have. But he also has a decent offensive line, and at least one back that can get outside. One, possibly two receivers that can as well. And I'm not as huge of a KoK hater as I once was. He threw lateral to go against their corners. It was a magnificent game plan. If there was one mistake, it was not trying to get Wadley outside. I don't understand this at all. I speculate he was setting up the long ball all game, and then we scored too quickly, and never really got the ball back. Again, brilliant, but a couple of key plays where our guys didn't execute.

Play of the game should go to the MSU defender for his heads up intentional PI. That was a potential TD. On another long route TS made a mistake where it looked like he tried to get another PI penalty, rather than trying to catch a ball that could have been caught. That puts us in scoring position, and potentially up two scores. He didn't read the pass very well, and that's on him, not CJ.

The people that think this is on the defense don't watch or understand football the way I do. I'd guess there are some "experts" that would agree with this. Haven't had any desire to get on Tweeter, and see what HGF is tweeting. Or whatever it is that people do instead of working on that new fangled Twitter thing.

Having said all of this, MSU qb couldn't hit a sideline route if it was 4 yards away. Some of this might be injury, but not all of it. His short to mid length passing game isn't all that good.

A bitterly disappointing game. I have noting left ta=han to take KFer at his word. He says he's done fundraising ((although not entirely) and he says he has recommitted himself to football. We have the kids to have at lweast two more very good seasons pout for the next four. We'll see.

I agree with you Golfer. This was on the offense, not the D. Not even close. Yes, Sparty was the best D we have played all year but our offensive plan seemed a tad weird. Will never understand why we left Myers on an island time and time again. Calhoun set the tone for their D. He was the MVP. It was almost like GD and BF weren't on the same page or something.

Regarding T. Smith's lack of reaction to the second bomb, check out the thread "2nd Bomb to Tevaun". Those who were at the game and had the luxury of multiple replays say he lost it in the lights.

Time for Davis to retire after the season IMO. I just think co-OC's in the future will just get more murkier. Just don't know why so many think BF is qualified....

Agreed on the offense. Central Michigan and Maryland were the only schools to score fewer points against MSU than we did. PSU got 16, Nebraska got 39, IU got 26, Michigan (Jake Rudock-led Michigan) got 23, Rutgers and WMU got 24, and Air Force and Purdue got 21. Heck, I don't even know that we needed more than 13 points, but that poor defense was pinned back darn near the whole second half and they were on the field for over 36.5 minutes of the game. Just a few more first downs and 4 more minutes TOP prolly would have won the game, as MSU would have had to throw more or go with tempo on their last drive. O'Keefe was a master architect of 8 play drives that churn out a few first downs, flip field position and get the defense a breather. I get that some fans were irritated that we didn't have the Oregon offense, but man, I would have killed for just two old school O'Keefe drives in that second half. O'Keefe also had plenty of vertical passing when we had Stanzi and McNutt and he would have set up a fake on one of those WR screens that would have gone for a monster play because of the way the MSU DBs were fighting to shut that down.

Man, you couldn't come up with a post with more trolls. Nobody realizes that MSU was in the best shape it was since the first game of the season. Almost all season the Spartan's offensive line & secondary were a mess because of injuries. Against Nebraska, Sparty had to start three true freshman in the secondary. This wasn't the same Spartan team that lost to Nebraska. But the trolls have to blame it on somebody!

^Yeah, they were in good health finally, but it was still a putrid offensive performance. 16 points given up by our defense should have been good enough to win.

C'mon Jeff....you know the Iowa mantra is defense wins games.

The offense is as necessary as a sperm donor to a woman who doesn't want a husband.

Get it done, get it done quickly, now get out of the way and let me take it from here.
