Your right but is that reason enough to be playing more? If he's dropping balls like the one he did he's got no purpose to be out there when he's not a big play threat like Smith, Powell and Willies are. One of those three if not some combo of them should be out there all the time. I don't know I guess I'd like to have seen their practices to see what ever it is the coaches like about Vandeberg more then the other guys
Are you suggesting if he's running the correct/ver good routes he should be sitting on the bench? Because that makes zero sense.
As bad as his drop was last Saturday, lest we not forget his terrific grab against Ball State. That one converted a first down (IIRC, it was 3rd and 9), and kept the game-winning drive alive.
I think the point is that running the correct route for a 3 yard gain or having a good block to gain 2 extra yards hails in comparison to catching a long touchdown pass. I think Kirk views them both equally as 1 good play.
Well, blocking is also important.

Yes thanks in a nutshell that's where I was going with that. Vandeberg just isn't physically capable of making the plays Smith Willies and Powell are. Is he good enough to have a role sure. But if I'm calling for someone to run a deeper then 20 yard route as the #1 option on a play he's not it. He was targeted twice last game on such plays while Willies and Powell never had a single target at all. I'm not hating on him at all I think he and KMM are solid slot guys. Just use the talent you have correctly for a change. Can say the same thing about Weisman. Quit trying to run slow developing plays to the outside for him. He has to be between the tackles to be effective. I love what he brings but your wasting downs trying to use him like they did Shonn Greene. He's got limitations to what he's good at.
Agreed, but so are touchdowns.
I swear that if there was a stat for touchdowns per touch...Powell would be number one in the history of the world. Only seen him get the ball a few times but in those few times have seen several crazy long runs and touchdowns. I think this guy is special and for some reason Ferentz doesn't like him.
I really feel sorry for Powell. I bet that if he had gone somewhere that wasn't coached by Ferentz he could have had a hell of a college career.
If you're a talented recruit with potential the stupidest thing you could do is to play for Ferentz. Hell, you'd be smarter to play for Rhodes. He's a piece of garbage, a tool, and one of the worst coaches in all of college football. But, if you're good you'll get to catch passes and he's a better coach than Ferentz.

Certainly, blocking is important. However, so is scoring more than your opponent.
17 points against ISU at home? Are you kidding?
correct. Iowa has a style that keeps games close. The problem with this style when you have a poor game day coach is you lose more than you win in these close games. The Hawks are 11-15 in one possession games since 2010. That's a win % of .423. WE have also played more close games than anyone else in the BIG. Only two teams are worse during the same time frame, Indiana (4-15) and Wisconsin (5-14). I don't see this trend changing for Iowa anytime soon.I think what you meant to say is "so is scoring one more than your opponent".
