Postgame Traffic to Davenport

Anyone have an idea of approximate drive time to get from Iowa City to Davenport if leaving right after a football game? I am going to a wedding in Davenport after the game on Saturday and don't want to leave mid 4th quarter.

(sorry to interrupt the actual football talk)

Normally it's a 50-55 minute drive to Davenport from IC. After a game however, you could be looking an hour and 15 minutes. Hopefully the Hawks are up big in the 4th and you can leave a few minutes early to beat the traffic.

Everyone tries to leave IC on 1-80 at either 1st in Coralville or Dubuque St in Iowa City. Skip that, and drive through town to Dodge street/Highway 1, and then follow that out of town and take that interstate entrance. It will save you 15 minutes easy.

Leave your seat with about 5 mins to go. Stand at the top of the steps in a corner of the endzone, watch the rest. At the last snap, bolt. Park at the fink driving range, its a walk, but you wont be sitting in traffic. Get on 380 north to I80 and youre home free. Dont have to worry about trying to drive through Iowa City at all.

If you're asking how long once you're on the interstate.....it's 55-60 minutes....not much of a change.
If you're asking how long when you factor into getting on the interstate....an extra 30 minutes at a minimum.

I do this 7 Saturday's every fall, so here's the word ...

Park in public ramp, 2 blocks south of Sheraton on Dubuque St. Last year, it was total honor system whether you paid or not. This year, have had to either pay an attendent or the machine to get out of the gate. Still, 1st hour is free.
(The IC Parking Gestapo quickly realized (much to the chagrin of their socialist, altruistic ideals) that, when given the option, it was about 50/50 collection-rate and, while reliance on human integrity, independent of consequence, is a worthy societal promotion, it's more important to pay for these expensive structures ... but I digress.)

From there, it's right at 1 mile to walk west on Burlington to Kinnick. Of course, allow 10 minutes to pick up a tall canned beverage at Kum and Go, to drink on the beautiful (yet, quite smelly) walk across the Iowa river and up the hill ... Again, I digress.

You now know you need 15 minutes to walk back to your car from Kinnick, whenever you decide to leave.
(I strongly encourage you to write that down; it WILL be handy knowledge to retain.)

Turn left out of the ramp, turn left again and get back to Burlington St. As OLWOMPAWORM referred to, above, head east (the direction, not the awesome 70's rock band with such hits as, "Since You Been Gone" and "Never Been Any Reason") toward Hwy1 / Governor St, which is the 1-way, going north, out of town.

Stay on this 1-way, Governor St, north, until it finally rejoins with Hwy 1 at a stop-sign. -- it seems to take forever but is only about 1-1/2 miles. Turn right, and, of course, allow an extra 20 minutes to stop for a post-victory celebratory beverage at Hilltop Lounge (aptly, though a bit presumptuously named because, while it is near the top of the hill, it seems to me that the actual peak is located a bit further north.) While you may have sanitary concerns, it is extremely unpretentious with a very good selection of draft and bottled craft beers. Damn! Another digression!

From Hilltop [sic] it is a mere 50 - 55 minutes to Brady St exit, in Davenport, depending on your speed and bladder (which depends on the volume at Hilltop [sic])

So, total Kinnick to Davenport time is approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes, if you navigate the route properly, as I've directed. This allows 5 - 10 minutes grace to get to the church in Davenport.

Happy trails.

I park in the Dental Lot. We leave Kinnick when the clock shows 0:00.
Excluding the time it takes to walk back to the parking lot (7 minutes?), it takes us almost exactly 55 minutes from the Dental Lot to the Davenport exit on I-80.

I believe someone mentioned it earlier. Go through Iowa City and take HWY 1 to get onto the interstate. Very little traffic.
If you try to go through coralville to reach the interstate, you'll be stuck in traffic.

Also, your time might be different depending on where you park. The more 'East' you park from Kinnick, the better you will be.

Nobody agrees with this advice.

It's really, really sad to see that some people go to a game but don't stick around to tailgate afterwards. Tragic, really.

Park at the driving range. All you have to do is drive out melrose, get on 380 to 80 and you're out. You don't even have to go through Iowa city FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!

For 11:00 a.m. games, we begin tailgating at 4:30 a.m.
By the time 3 p.m. arrives, most of us are on the tired side!
6 hours of drinking before the game, followed by 3 hours of 'sobering' up. I'm ready to go home after the game is over.

That is just sheer insanity. Who the hell is even awake to drive home at that point? I can't think of too many things less appealing than tailgating in the middle of the night on a cold November day. I'd rather spend a few hours after the game when the weather is the nicest, thus avoiding any and all hassles with the traffic. But to each their own.
