Post season all conference teams

Kevin Ferrell Stats, News, Videos, Highlights, Pictures, Bio - Indiana Hoosiers - ESPN

Mike Gesell Stats, News, Videos, Highlights, Pictures, Bio - Iowa Hawkeyes - ESPN

Look at the stats. Percentages are close to the same. Gesell is more of a scorer, which we knew coming in and the fact the Hawks have needed him to score more for them than the Hoosiers have needed from Ferrell. Ferrell has the lead in assists, no surprise here considering the talent on Indiana's team. Could go either way.

If Marble hadn't been hurt, I think he could have easily made the 2nd team. It always seems like you need to be a bonafide star/future NBAer to make first team, obviously, or be one of the few threats on your team to put up the stats needed to make first team, DeShaun Thomas, Tim Frazier, Jon Shurna, etc. Obviously those guys are still very good but they might have limitations keeping them from being drafted or drafted higher.

don't see any hawks on any of those teams

gesell could be 3rd team next year

woody and gesell both 2nd team as jrs

nothing until then

I love me some aaron white, but on the top 5 teams in the B1G he's the 3rd (maaaaaybe) or 4th or 5th option. no way he puts up his iowa numbers on a better team. same with marble.

I think Fran is starting a freshman for recruiting purposes as well and if I was an upperclassmen it would really upset me

Fran is starting a freshman because he only has two frosh PG. He was also starting Woody because he was the most polished of the two true 5s. What about the other 2 frosh, one who rarely sees the court and the other who is RSing?

What has happened since the year rolled on? Fran has had to once again go with a small front line and MG is still the point, because he is the best option for now and the future.

But more importantly, if Fran is starting frosh only for recruiting, what upper-class player should be starting over MG?

Does it have to be the absolutely best five players *have* to start? Logic would dictate this thought, but...

What about team chemistry, who brings what off the bench, who plays well with others (skills mesh with others skills on the floor), etc.

As for Dekker vs Gesell for the 5th and final all-frosh spot (argument's sake), I'd hope the selection folks would look at MVP-type data. I.e. where would Wisky be w/o Dekker, and, Iowa w/o Gesell. If taken into account, Gesell gets selected ahead of Dekker hands down IMO.

You are overthinking the freshman team way too much. Writers/coaches arent going to deliberate with themselves for more than 3 minutes on who to put on that team.

And how many years have you sat on the Big-10 All-Freshman team selection committee?

Thought so.

Dude Dekker is better than MG. just deal with it. Dekker has a chance to be the best player in the conference at some point.

We hope MG develops into Aaron Craft or a Crispin bro type player.

the all-frosh teams tend to go with the guys who have the five highest stats, regardless of position.

it's not that complicated.

(iowa's lack of both quality and depth led to some solid but unspectacular guys making all-frosh for a few years, simply because they were getting more minutes and taking more of their team's load than better players in other programs. but they had great freshman stats lulz.)

actually, not having anyone on the freshman team would be a positive sign insofar as it indicates iowa is now actually retaining and developing the kids that they have.

I like Gesell as much as anybody on this forum but there is no way he gets named to the All Freshman team ahead of Dekker. Have you seen any of the Wisconsin games? He might come off the bench but he plays a huge role on that team and has almost single handedly won them games. Dekker might be the best player Bo Ryan has ever recruited to Wisconsin.

Clearly must be a relative of yours to make a comment like that. The kid is good, but, cmon. Get a clue.

I watch plenty of games my friend. Like i said. The kid is good. But not good enough to be considered the best player in the conference.

Not as a freshman he isnt. Who that is in the conference right now that will still be here in 2 years is as good or better than Dekker?

Zeller will be gone. Burke will be gone. Dekker is better than Gary Harris, GR III or any freshman in the B1G.

Too often, these post season honors are pre-decided by reputation rather than on floor performance. I believe Gesell has earned a spot on the All-Frosh team, but I don't think he will make it.

Who would you take off in order to put Gesell on?

Harris? No way
Dekker? Nope
GR III? No
McGary? Maybe
Stauskas? I dont think so
Hammons? Possibly
Yogi? Doubt it

The B1G is loaded this year with good freshman. Its not an indictment on Gesell's season if he doesnt make it.
