Post-ISU silver lining thread

Post positive stuff in here. Maybe make things a touch less gloomy around here. I'll start...

The D-line has a ton of young talent. LTP is going to be a real good one. Cooper too. Alvis is only a jr. They may have their ugly moments this season, but it will be fun watching them the next few years.

Although the Hawks failed to capitalize, they did start moving the ball well in the 4th quarter. I loved the counter runs and the 1st-down swing passes to Bullock. We may have a passable offense yet. Next two games will be telling.

Another one, Morris played one of his best games as a Hawkeye. I've had my doubts about him, but if he can do that consistently, he could be the second best MLB of the KF era. Not too shabby.

Props to the linebacker crew. Hitchens with 19 tackles, Kirksey was solid as always, and Morris with a HUGE interception to give us a chance at the end. I was very impressed with these guys.

I was impressed with the defense. There were plays being made all over the field after ISU first possession.

I agree with all the defense posts. I'll add Bullocks hands on the positive list. He showed good ability to catch the ball out of the backfield (although he did bobble and drop the ball shortly before the half).

I liked how we used the TE. Those guys need to be used a lot.
The defense was pretty good. A little bit too much bend but dont break. But thats Iowa football.

There was very little bend in the 2nd half. Only 5 first downs allowed the entire half and no points. Remember ISU started most of their drives near midfield in the 2nd half.

The defense gave us great chances to win. Created turnovers and made big plays. I think this year will be tough but will pay off big time in the next two years.

I loved the swing passes and wheel routes to the RB, and if Bullock hadn't dropped a couple of them, this might have really opened things up upfield.

Meyer looks very solid and confident out there, Kornbrath hasn't shanked any punts, and we haven't given up any big returns.

No lost fumbles for the 2nd straight game.

VDB seemed more confident this game than last, and put most balls in a catchable spot. I don't recall more than 1-2 sacks--another big positive.

When working, I could sense Davis' offense getting into a rhythm that will be tough to defense in future games--given the screens and wheel routes and so on, we're creating more uncertainty for defenses. I wish we had run out of the shotgun a time or two, but I think that will come with time.

Yours doesn't happen to be painted a dark gold with black stripes is it?

Nope
