Everyone's entitled to their opinion and I respect that. Some of you may have been to a coaches camp, perhaps coach or are an assistant coach at a HS, or ready to coach a D1 school from all the games you've watched and coached from the loveseat. Either way criticizing the players is a sign of how big of d bags some of you are. Suggesting the outcome would be better with someone else at RB or QB is just stupid. Criticize Kirk, Davis, Barta etc... But leave the fukn players how bust their ***** day in and day out to win for the "fans" alone. All you ex all American athetes that received D1 scholarships need to lay off the ones that did and chose to play for the Hawkeyes.

I'm okay with people making personnel suggestions. But for crying out loud, why don't we focus on the positions where the play was poor? Not the QB who continues to look solid and the running back who ran for 180 yards at a 6-yard clip.

Do you call up anyone that's critical of a player and tell them to stop picking in the poor college players too? Sounds like you need to get your panties out of a wad and get over it.

It's funny, yesterday at the game there was some loud-mouthed idiot about four or five rows behind me ragging on Tanner Miller literally every passing play by Missouri St all game long even if the ball was thrown in away from him. Then Tanner Miller made the nice interception in the endzone and multiple people around him started calling him out about it. He left almost immediately after this, and I like to think it wasn't because it was in the last few minutes of the game. I know, I know cool story, right? The OP's sentiments just reminded me of that guy.

when i was a student there was a middle aged guy who sat above me a few rows - negative yelling against Fry the whole game, game after game. there came a time i became tired of his routine, turned around and let it fly about how his negativity was crap, old and tired. he never said another word the whole season. after that game, and elderly gentleman came up and thanked me for saying what i said to this guy.

cool story bro.....

It's a board rule as well, for a reason. So there's that.

Well said. Being a former Hawkeye athlete I know the work and time they are putting in for you fans. Lay off the kids! Really, if losing a football game ruins your week, all I can say is "Get a life". It's entertainment nothing more-nothing less. Do you rag on the producer, director, and actors of every movie you go to? Maybe you do, but I doubt it. Why should you rag on kids that have more talent than you ever had and are busting their ##### for you? They don't enjoy playing poorly and they more than you want to correct their mistakes. Support them damn it!! Rant over.

2 things from a slightly different viewpoint and from someone who generally doesn't criticize that student-athletes...

1) Had you not mentioned that you were a former athlete, I think the bolded sentence would have fit very well in your rant. Since you did include that info, it does come off sounding a little elitist. Not that it invalidates your point at all...just my take reading it through the first time objectively.

2) I was an athlete growing up as well, although not at the elite/D-1A level. I was in a lot of different sports, some in which I performed better in than others. I worked hard, but when offseason workouts were at their worst, and I wanted to quit but also needed to push out 1 more set/1 more rep/1 more sprint, I don't ever recall saying to myself, "If I can get through just one more set/rep/sprint those fans will appreciate me more!" They are putting in the work, but if their driving motivation is for pleasing fans, I think it's a little misguided and needs some direction. You'd think that time they spent working out would be for 1 and 1A personal development and team goals...I'm not sure the fans even enter the equation. Once again, this doesn't invalidate your point at all about ragging on kids...

You're exactly right. Athletes appreciate their fans but they don't work their butts off to please their fans, they do it to win for themselves.

Also, these are not "kids".
