Possible Basketball Recruits

Hawks need ballers. The descriptions of the recruits Iowa needs should be…."long wingspan"…"tall enough to shoot over defenders"…"can post up and put the ball on the floor"…"Has speed and control in transition"…"shoots a high percentage"…"works above the rim". Unless Iowa can bring in high level recruits, Iowa will slip back down in the coming years. Not always going to have 3 star guys like White and Marble turn out to be All Americans.

Wouldn't be surprised if Iowa goes out and tries to find a physical point guard in the juco ranks for next year.

So we are looking for another Marble? That will be a daunting task. But I still think Jok could slide into part of that role you described for next season. I also think White and Uthoff will be able to make up the scoring gap left behind by Marble and, hopefully, Basabe. Honestly I worry about Iowa graduating Basabe more than I do Marble, I think Fran needs to focus his efforts on bringing in another athletic big man before finding another guard.

You realize Josh Ogelsby is our backup to Marble right? Granted he had a nice game but he is nowhere near the potential of Marble.

In comparison.... Uthoff comes in for Basabe. I would consider that a wash.

So Jok is a wasted scholarship? Plus Fran already has a SG committed for the next class in 6-4 Brady Ellingson along with, hopefully, a Basabe clone in 6-8 Dominique Uhl.

A player left on the list uncommitted that Iowa is in on is Josh Cunningham. Scout has him with only 3 stars but he is ranked 29th as a SF, perhaps he fits into that Marble type of player. I do think Fran lands a small forward with the 2014 class as he has many offers still out there.

No Jok is not a wasted scholarship. Perhaps he can develop into a similar type Marble player but I certainly don't expect him to live up to those expectations next year. Ellingson from what I understand is a sharp shooter which is definetly needed but not something that will fill Marble's role.

No disrespect to Basabe.... but I just feel he won't be that difficult to replace due to having an asset like Uthoff coming off the bench and step up to fill the role immediately.

I don't see that with Marble, but I'm just one guy with an opinion.

Yes, we are going to need a go to guy at the guard position. In a perfect world Jok would step into that role but he'll have to take a similar step in his game that Marble had going into his sophomore year. I too worry about losing Basabe. He brings a toughness to Iowa's defense. Uthoff will get a lot of his minutes with McCabe also leaving. The new recruit in Dominique Uhl can hopefully become the next Basabe. 6'-8" 200 lbs and can get a lot stronger. Plays well above the rim with a good wingspan. Has some athleticism as well.

I have to think Uhl and Ellingson are feeling good about their college choice the last couple of days. I bet Ellingson gets a lot of jabs up there in badger country.

Marble got a lot of playing time as a freshman which aided his growth in his soph year. Jok is not getting that experience and probably will not grow as much as he could have as a result. The only advantage Jok has is that he is more physically mature than Dev was and is a better shooter at the same stage in their careers. Iowa needs to sign a banger (pf) to replace Mel, imo, as there is no other player on the team with that capability. Hopefully, Iowa is able to sugn 2 of the following 3 JUCO's.......Dickerson or Cherry and Atwood.

Yes. The Hawks aren't just winning, they're fun to watch. I saw some pictures of Ellingson and maybe it's just me but he has a slight resemblance to Gatens. If he's even half the player Gatens was, he'll be a good one.

Badger fans may jab him but they know they got lucky on the win and IA is a very good team, so no real shame.

I read a very good article in the Des Moines Sunday Register about DM North basketball team this year. The article was written by Bryce Miller along with some side notes from the DM North head coach on each player.

Here are the following players that can play beyond high school:

G Teyontae Jenkins--Leading scorer in Class 4-A at last week's start with 25.3 ppg. All-time leader in assists, steals.

F/C Darius Miles--Intelligent, great student. Moved from Lincoln, NE as a freshman.

F Sam Williams--Homecoming King, Mr. Popular. In choir & drama. North's all-time shot blocker.

G Terrance Bush--Third-leading scorer in 4-A & perhaps the best jump shooter in IA. Led 4-A in 3-pointers made last season as junior. Moved from New Orleans, LA.

G Sekou Mtayari--In Science Bound program; could go to ISU.

F Jamaal Dudley--Works hard.

Have seen these 6 seniors play. Wonder if Iowa shows any interest?

Dude, newsflash- Todd Lickliter is no longer our coach.

Upon thinking about the OP more, this has got to be a TedNugent alt, right? He wants his crappy guard play criticisms to come to frutition. I just know it!
