Positives re the KOK hire.

Being a game manager = not being great.

Tom Brady is an elite game manager. Being a game manager only means that your primary passing offense isn't isolating1 on 1's and letting it fly. Aaron Rodgers is not a game manager. I will add that there have only been a handful of great QB's who broke the game manager mold. Kirk definitely wants his QB's to be game managers. That isn't ever going to change. Davis didn't know how to teach a game manager QB. Hence the regression. The more Greg taught the more the QB became hesitant. At Texas Greg had great talent to work with. So they would throw jump balls to single covered recievers. If we had DJK and McNutt quality recievers we could and did throw more 50/50 balls. We will probably only start the season by throwing covered passes to MVB. My hope is that Brandon Smith will excel in this area and by time B1G play starts we will have 2 good outside WR's for the first time since DJK and McNutt.

KOK coached some great QBs and offensive teams. To look more at reality, he's the guy who started KM over BB and couldn't teach BB he plays. He also for a long time played JC of RS driving us all nuts. And was the coach of Pick 6 Rick.....

He also oversaw some of the worst running games in Big Ten history.

As NC Hawker said, when Iowa has better players they have a better team.

2017 is impossible to predict. For sure it will be different.

I believe it is common knowledge among the very informed that KOK was pushing for Stanzi over JC all along and KF was the one that stayed with JC until he finally relented. Want to bet it was the same with McCann? One can hardly complain about KOK being a mentor to Stanzi the year he threw pick sixes, as he was younger that year and als we still won games with him leading the offense, meaning he directed the offense in wins despite the INTs. He was around Banks for two years and they had one of their best exams ever and the guy almost won the Hiesman.

And you bring these things up as a downside to his QB mentoring abilities?

I guess I masked my sarcasm. I agree with you. I've never had a problem with KOK. The problem with hiring KOK is that he now has 2 levels of Ferentz's to deal with.
