Positives from ISU game

IMO Woodbury's ceiling is much lower than Lohaus or Jepsen, the main reason being the game has just changed since those two played, and coaching has definitely changed. I don't think it's good comparison at all.

I wouldn't read much more into the comparison than "big guys take time to develop". That was my intent, anyway.

What particular changes in the game and coaching convince you that Woody's ceiling is lower than the others?

1) Guard oriented offenses, traditional big guys are just used as bodies now, screening high, then screening ball, then screening some more. The last and one of the few true big men I can remember being an offensive focal point is Roy Hibbert, and only for about 1/2 of his SR. season.
2) In the days of Lohaus and Jepsen there was no such thing as a Dirk Nowitzki, Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, etc...(Guys with traditional 'Big Men" bodies but with all around skills), With these type of guys out there there's really no reason to have lanky, relatively uncoordinated big men on your team
3) In terms of coaching, everyone is running motion, pick and roll, or some type of read offense, no one is running the Flex or timing offense ala Mr. Davis anymore where the offense is predicated on getting to a certain spot on the court at a certain time where depending on the progression of the play the traditional Center could get to his spot on the low block one v one and get an easy entry pass and jump hook. Things are just more complicated now and modern defensive sets and players like the ones mentioned above (Dirk, LJ, etc) are too quick to get themselves in to the position of being on the back of a slow Center on the block.
4) In summary, there really isn't a spot anymore for a guy that is 7 feet tall and isn't a shot blocker. A guy like Nerlens Noel could change the game so drastically on the defensive end and jump high enough to get enough lob dunks to be effective on offense and justify big minutes.

There's other factors as well but you have to subscribe to my Insider to get all of my amazing basketball insights ;)
