POLL: Who is more likely to first throw an NFL regular season pass, Beathard or Rudock?

It's impossible to tell. JR is a cheap back up. What the Niners did was unusual. So I expect he'll get some real shots.

Agree that Jake is a cheap back-up. If Stafford is injured the Lions season is over at the point Jake is playing. Although surprising the fact that the Niners drafted CJ relatively early probably means he will get some snaps maybe even later this year.

The answer is definitely not Ricky Stanzi.

its still early in the pre-season. The Lions might still pick up a veteran backup and Rudock could get realeased. same for the 49ers and Beathard.

but I am going with Beathard. He simply is better than Rudock and will play first.

Beathard

Stafford never gets hurt. He will chuck it for like 8,000 yards next season. On the flip side, Beathard could be the starter by week 4.

Guys.....

What if Joe Flacco sent a backwards toss to Marshal Yanda while he stands a few yards behind the line of scrimmage; Then Yanda tosses it like the Solon Beef Days Hay Bale Toss to a wide open Mike Wallace or Jeremy Maclin?

Lets look at what circumstances allow a backup QB to get some playing time. There is the obvious which is the starter gets hurt. I give Jake the edge here under this circumstance because he is the #2 and CJ will enter the year as the #3 in SF. Another scenario is that you are involved in a blowout so the backup gets to enter the game and once again this situation would favor Jake because of his clear #2 status. A third scenario would be that your team has a very poor record through the first 12 or so games and the coaching staff decides to see what it has on the roster. This scenario would favor CJ. I'd bet on Jake being the first to throw an actual pass, but CJ being the first to start.

Scenario #4:
Both tear it up in camp, move up to starter and both complete a pass at the same time with 1pm kickoffs for both.

Yeah I agree with most of what ya wrote. I think both are a long ways away from winning any starting gigs though. Their are a million different ways either of them could sneak into a game here or there. But winning a starting gig is a different animal. It'll be fun to watch the preseason play out and see how they look that's for sure.

I guess Ruddock coudn't pass muster during the pledge. So therefore # Beathimhard would throw his first pass.

Rudock is not a Hawkeye. He didn't want to be here, and most people didn't want him here.

I would have liked him here I am sure under another coach. The type of QB that KF grooms and wants is not the type that does well here. Stanley just well may be the first. We'll see. That pass on the 2 point conversion against PSU was hardly what KF would have wanted...and he almost got it in there.
