I was looking at the scores from yesterday. I notice how many points various teams are scoring and against whom they are scoring. I am definitely influenced by it.

Do you think the polls are influenced by it ?

Do you think the hawks would be better served by scoring more points in the OOC

Do you think Brian and Kirk care about it?

Michigan and Iowa had the fewest points scored among all BigTen teams in week 2

Here are yesterday's scores https://www.espn.com/college-football/scoreboard

I don't think there is any doubt that a 60-30 win is more impressive to voters than a 30-0 win. Its an offensive game.

Of course you could just do what Wisconsin does and win 49-0 & 61-0. Best of both worlds

Maryland is ranked now, so I would say "yes."

Of course the idea is to score points and shutout your opponent.

60-0 scores against very weak teams does not impress but winning 31-10 against a good opponent does.

Pollsters clearly are because they generally are either lazy or don't make the time to dive deep into why a score was what it was. if you watched iowas game yesterday it was one of the most lopsided beat downs of a game in a major conference you'll see. if you didn't watch it what you wouldn't know is that that game would have been 50-0, 60- 0 something like that if not for the best player on the field being Rutgers punter. if the hawks were starting some of those drives at the 20 instead of the 4 or the 2, then iowa routes them even worse. in other games if you don't pay attention to like this teams qb went out hurt, this team didn't have their kicker, stuff like that, which effects the score, then you're missing part of the picture.

And I think it should... Maybe more so than just points is the scoring differentials with competition considered as well. Especially early in the year when some teams have been played a quality opponent and other teams have not. The just win mentality will work it’s way out over the year for the power 5 teams as they’ll have plenty of opps. But still late in the year as they look at teams, quality wins and scoring margin have to be considered for the playoff committee as well as bowl selection.
