Point Guard

Early on after Coach was hired there was some discussion on the board, which I am unable to locate, related to a point guard that was considering Siena. I think it showed he was the 4th rated point guard left unsigned in this years class and was a top 150 recruit?

Does anyone have any additional information related to the player and has he been contacted by any "insiders" regarding if he will consider Iowa now that Coach has been hired and it sounds as though one of his top assistants may follow?

If you were coaching the team, would you take a top 150 type rated point guard and have 5 scholarships tied up in this class or would you prefer to take a proven juco that would be added to the junior class therefore "evening" the scholarships a bit?

Here is the player: Bryon Allen, a 6'3" PG who committed and then decommitted to Huggins at West Virginia. I think he is a 90. He still has Siena in his list of 4 or 5.

I thought Jon said that the player you're talking about (can't remember his name) committed to George Mason after the coaching change. He hasn't signed, so we could still get him, but the last I heard he had given a verbal to George Mason.

Thanks TM. Finally found the same info.

I would assume a juco might be the best route now.

Honestly, for the life of me, I can't remember their names. They both played in the JUCO title game though.

Is one of them Anthony cousin of Butler CC?

I know he's looking to leave after just his freshman year and being recruited by several schools in the midwest including I believe Marquette.

If that is the case it's probably Marquise Carter and Josh Watkins. Watkins' team won in OT in the title game and he was named tourney MVP. Google tells me that both have offers from Oklahoma. Carter appears to have offers from Gonzaga and Wichita State as well. He is a 6-4 combo guard who had 35 pts in the final and made the all tourney team. He is the #26 juco prospect according to rivals. Watkins is a 6 foot PG. He at least has interest from Florida St., Cincinatti, and West Virgina to go along with the offer from OU.

Marshal from WSU spent multiple nights at the JUCO tourney ... it's a short trip from Wichita to Hutch. Rumor mill has the kid going WSU, but until he signs on the dotted line, who knows.

Yes, I think those are the kids. I know that the Watkins name rings a bell for sure.
