point guard is the key to next year.

If get a guy who can be a threat at that position.. next would be if Dale Jones comes back shooting like he was.

There are so many variables going into next season. I think we will be really good some days and struggle other days. I expect next year's team to be like this year's Ohio State team...with Jok added. I suspect the entire non conference season will be spent figuring out the rotation. Because Ohio State did not have a Jok I think we have a legitimate chance at the NCAA.

Here's a poorly kept secret - PG is the key to every year.

Did you think Villanova had a dominant point guard? Who is Duke's point guard? Michigan state used a forward as a point guard. There are probably 15 other teams that I can think of that don't have a dominant point guard.

It's an important position obviously... but for us next year very important.

I just hope we have at least one guy who comes out of nowhere and makes us all say wow. All the other pieces are going to be there. It would be especially nice if that player was Williams.

William's showed flashes that he can score... can he score, distribute and defend... all are big question marks.

Don't really want to argue, because we agree that PG is important. For sustained excellence, a good point guard is more important than any other position in my opinion. I will quibble with one point - If MSU used a forward as a point guard, doesn't that make him a point guard?

You just don't see many good 6'7" point guards, let alone lightly recruited ones. Color me skeptical. I like Williams a lot as a wing/secondary ballhandler.

Agreed Micheal Carter-Williams and Gbinije both at Cuse are the two 6'6 PGs I remember recently.

The point I believe is that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Sometimes your best PG is a wing (MSU). Starting Williams may create some interesting match ups for post ups, time will tell. Passing will have to come by committee next year IMO.

You were being smug ... I was just pointing out that there are lots of teams without dominant point guards that are successful. Heck look at Wisconsin the past few years... they didn't have a dominant point guard.

We don't necessarily disagree (as you said) - I'm just saying for us,,, next year its majorly important in comparison to many years...

More like a smart ___, but I couldn't resist, it was just hanging there, and I had to pick it. Peace.

We need to find a graduate transfer PG next year or I think we're in trouble

Why would you think we're in trouble. We completely fell apart this year and still got a 7 seed and it's not like we're replacing Andre Wolridge. We were pretty decent with freshman Gesell running point as a freshman and Bohannon looks to be just as good coming out of high school as he was. I think we need a 2nd scoring option more than anything else to replace Uthoff.

Gesell was a top 100 recruit with offers like Stanford and Iowa State. Bohannon was a fallback recruit that had no Power 5 offers. His stats in HS are good but so were Ellingon's. At least Ellingson has some size. I think Jordan will be a contributor in his career but he's definitely not the answer at PG.

Bohannon had a huge senior season after he committed to Iowa. If he wasn't committed yet, he would probably have quite a few more offers. Players that have big jumps their senior year of high school give me more hope than players that were already big recruits before their senior years, then don't really get much better.

And how can you say he's definitely not the answer? Players turn out to be better than their ranking all the time. If you want to say the odds aren't in his favor that's one thing. But definitely?

His senior year numbers line up with Ellingson's. He had no offers after AAU which is way more telling than High School statistics. Without looking I bet he had way better numbers than Cook this year and Cook is our best recruit

I'm not saying he's going to be good because of his numbers. I'm saying I have a feeling he's going to be good because of how much he has improved as the year's gone on. Also because of the family he's come from. The main thing tho is we were a pretty good team this year with a point guard who struggled bad offensively and was extremely un clutch. So the bar isn't unattainable.

We need to have 3 months long Boot Camp with this guy...
