Podolak on Soundoff: Iowa looking more no huddle

Ed just said they had planned to use some no huddle today...but that penalties and self inflicted wounds limited when they could do it.

I really think going forward, we are going to see more of it.

Shouldn't you be taking calls? You are such a multi-task kinda guy.

I certainly hope so. I think we have the best WR core in the Ferentz era, they run great routes and can catch the ball. Our RB situation isnt great. Its just taking advantage of our strengths.

Way to be Jon. Never forgetting about Hawkeye Nation and feeding us inside info:) I agree though. James looked like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole for almost two weeks. That 4th quarter reminded me of how he played in Columbus. If we can get that passing game going earlier, you gotta think that'll help out Coker.

I don't want to see Oregon's offense but, Id like to see it 2-3 times a game to keep the defense honest and on their toes.

I doubt it.

The pro-style offense has been in place at Iowa for a decade.

I will be shocked if we see this moving forward. I really hope I'm wrong, now and again this wrinkle would be nice. Just don't see KF doing it.

I'm also very skeptical that Iowa would have done this today. Iowa only went no huddle when forced to. Iowa had opportunities to do it prior to getting down 24-3. I'm not buying that.

I've never been sold on Oregon's offense as being the juggernaut that they're made out to be.

You're kidding me?!!

Last year they hung 48 on Tennesse, 52 on Stanford, 53 on USC and 48 on Arizona. They only had 2 games with under 30 pts (Auburn and Cal). We had 7 games with under 30 points.

When they face legitimate defenses, they don't look any better than we do. They pad stats out west, but when they play a good defense, they look just like everyone else. If they were as good as they've been made out to be, they wouldn't look average against the Auburns, Ohio States, LSU's, Boises, etc.

I say dust off the 2004 playbook, coker gets 15 carries, Bullock gets 5 or 6, let KOK run the offense, KF keeps his paws off it and let JVB chuck it 40+ times a game.

i think we saw elements of that today. remember we will get nolan mac back and he is the most talented olineman besides reiff. there is nothing wrong with iowa's scheme but a second option only makes this O more dangerous.

I know that JVB looked rough early but he is going TO BE our offense this season. coker will get his yards, just hopefully late in games. he has as much, if not more room for improvement as jvb

This...

I really feel it would give the offense a more consistent chance putting together scoring drives, and if he happens to throw a few INT's a game it's not that big of deal. Not saying he would but there were a couple that could have been intercepted today and I suppose it's not a whole lot worse than 3 and out every time.

I think the up tempo would certainly make us more competetive this season, and agree with the poster who said JVB has looked like a square peg in around hole in the first 2 games. I'm not sure we do it all game, but the ability to change the tempo wears out defenses. Look at the time between plays in the last quarter. Iowa was able to get it off as fast as anybody out there, which was a huge supprise to me. It looks as though the team has practiced this tempo enough to be comfotable with it. Another thing I would add is it looks as though Coker may not be the everydown back we thought he would be. In my opinion he is a step to slow in jelling with this o-line. I think we should get closer to splitting caries between Bullock and him and give a few to White to spell them. It looks as though Bullock has the quickness Robinson or Russell did where they can give a sudden move and be upfield quickly whereas Coker has little suddeness to him.
