Plewa Clinic

I haven't seen it mentioned a lot on here, but Macon Plewa put on a clinic on lead blocking on Saturday. It's so nice to have him back and healthy. NW's only answer to him was to have the LB/SS charge at him and submarine him in the hole when they saw him coming. Iowa ended up having him lead into a hole and have the RB go to a different hole, which worked beautifully. I watched him every play he was in, because I absolutely LOVE how he plays. Watch him on Weisman's 3 TD's from Saturday. The first one was a great block, the second was also good, but the defender basically dropped/submarined, and the third one was as dominant a lead block as you'll ever see by a fullback. The 3 plays are at :50, 1:30, and 3:45. (Also, notice the dummy audible when the OLB showed blitz that backed the him off and really set up the block on the 2nd TD. Beautiful.).

Did Kenney even play at fullback on Saturday? I don't recall seeing him. I thought Kenney did pretty well but with Plewa we saw what a true fullback does. Great game from him. Kenney will continue to develop if he stays at fullback but it's nice to have Plewa back.

He played FB late in the game, but only a handful of snaps. Don't recall seeing him early in the game, though.

I wonder if Kenney will stay there with Cox and Plewa there next year. There was also another defensive guy that switched over to FB that Ferentz mentioned, but I don't recall who it was. Gilson, maybe?

Yes, Morehouse mentioned Gilson getting some FB reps in practice.

The Gazette guys theorized early this year that they'd play Kenny at FB this year as a chance to get playing time, and then move him back to LB in the Spring.

The blocking in general was fabulous on those touchdowns. Its nothing but hats on hats, pretty much every defender accounted for.

Plewa is a stud. There haven't been very many games in recent memory where the Oline just demolished the other team like that. It wasn't even that the plays ran just like you draw em up but the Oline was pushing them backwards play in and play out. Nothing makes me happier then just taking the other teams manhood from them like that. It didn't matter if they knew what was coming. Has to be one of the most frustrating losses Fitz has had this year anyway. I know he hates us.

Wow dude. I remember seeing a difference in blocking at fullback when I watched the game in real time, but going back and seeing these highlights he really did an amazing job on Saturday. I really hope he stays healthy because I think his lead blocking is a game changing asset for this team moving forward. Thanks for the post.

Great point ... those were three tremendous blocks. There were so many guys that stepped up an contributed ... great win.
