Please tell me we have a new punter

Everything I’m hearing has Gersonde punting instead of Rastetter. Which is good.

Rastetter is the nephew of an Iowa politician and lobbyist who is one of the program’s biggest donors. I don’t care what anyone says, him remaining on the team last year after serving up the biggest shit sandwich in punting history is not a coincidence.

Nate Stanley is one of our better punters. Not sure angles and such, but as far as distance and hang time, he's damn good.
I'm kinda surprised they didn't have him do it more... He also pinned one inside the 5 once I think. Most top level HS programs had punters better than what we did last yr that was flat out embarrassing. There's no sugarcoating it.

Ring Ring Ring

"President Herrald's office, how may I direct your call?"

"Give me the President."

"I'm sorry, he's not available. May I take a message?"

"Yeah, tell him Colten punts or I pull strings to change the funding formula and Iowa State gets 93% of the state's higher education revenues." Click.

Ryan Garsonde was a true freshman last year. He's getting a full summer in Iowa's top notch strength and conditioning program, and he will be greatly improved. He's going to be a good punter for this team, and he will play a major role in several of Iowa's wins over the next 3 years by pinning opponents deep or flipping field position. He can do what Jason Baker did for sure.

Stanley punted the ball 15 yards further than Rastetter without even trying. Our punting last season was laughably bad. Hopefully Gersonde will be a big upgrade.

I'd like to see how well Megan Gustafson can punt. Just for the heck of it. I saw her throw shot put and discus in high school. She's a good athlete and not just at basketball.

Didn't somebody say Garsonde was hurt last year? He could have benefited from the new redshirt rule last year.

Iowa's punting was like Iowa basketball's defense: embarrassing. Lets hope they're both competent these upcoming seasons.

Other than the fact Gersonde was injured the latter part of the season...

I would bet 50% of the guys on the roster were their high school's punter too. Usually the best athletes are. Somebody has to be better.
