Please - No More Pacific Time Zone Night Games

I hope the Board in Control of Athletics institutes a policy of no more late start games in the Pacific Time Zone. Last nights game didn't get over until 1:15 am, a three and three quarter hour affair. It isn't fan friendly and for the coaches and players it is too much time spent in travel and too much waiting around time. Thankfully conference games do not start for two weeks. When the 9 game conference schedule rolls around it makes it more imperative to avoid the kind of travel and time difficulties.

I honestly got tired of hearing them say the time difference and the temperature was a huge factor. They act like it's 32 degrees here in Iowa. Give me a break. I don't think feeding into the excuse of west coast night games is going to help them win the next one. We just got beat.

If we're not willing to go anywhere and play anyone I don't see how its going to be possible to be a top 10 program nationally AND get the respect of outsiders (media, other fanbases, coaches, neutrals)...We could be a fake top 10 program (ala KSU in the 90's) or you can be a legit top 10 program like OSU playing top 25 teams in the non-con every year.

Not trying to make excuses. If you have a family with young children and wanted to watch, it was well past the kids bedtime before the game started. For those of us that like to use the weekend to catch up on some sleep and get to Sunday services, games scheduled like the one last night, are work not entertainment.

lame you said your not trying to make excuses and then I count 3 excuses made in the very same post. its one game of the year. if you can't stay up past your bedtime then don't watch. it's not like the game was on a Tuesday in South Korea and started at 1 am. slightly pathetic.

He said he wasn't making excuses for the team's performance. And he offered up zero excuses for them in that post.

Thank you for the rebuttal to clicheusername3. I also specified late start night games in my plea. I wasn't suggesting games that would end before 10 pm Central Time couldn't be scheduled.

Maybe I missed your original point, if so my apologies because I took the thread as being an excuse for our poor play, sorry about that. The reason I took it that way is because you said

"for the coaches and players it is too much time spent in travel and too much waiting around time. Thankfully conference games do not start for two weeks. When the 9 game conference schedule rolls around it makes it more imperative to avoid the kind of travel and time difficulties."

Took that as travel and time difficulties and sitting around all day for the players and coaches played a role in the loss in your statement. Again, my bad if I took your post the wrong way but that is the reason why I took it the way I did.

Jon has said this a few times...we will not see Iowa head west in a regular season game under Kirk again. Kirk is all for playing in tough places if it gives us a recruiting edge. We simply do not recruit out there and as a result dont expect to see Iowa going west under Kirk (in the reg. season).
