Please don't define success only as hiring Pearl

If we do make a change, I'm concerned about how many people seem to be taking the position that Pearl and only Pearl is "the guy." I honestly don't think Pearl is a possibility unless Iowa pays him KF money, and perhaps not even then. I also don't know that Iowa has the will to pay KF money to get a new coach.

I agree that Pearl is the one clear "home run" hire. But let's not set ourselves up for failure by defining him as the only guy.

No matter what, though, I do think the way this has unfolded is putting a lot of pressure on Barta to hire someone who will be recognized right out of the gate a s a home run, and there aren't a lot of guys who would fit that description.
 
Good post. Pearl is one of a few good candidates but not the only one. If we could get him fine, but lets not get crazy over it. I just want new blood, any new blood.

Good post. Pearl would be a great hire, but is a long shot.
 
I agree with this sentiment and I should probably tweek my thread a little with saying do whatever you have to do to get Pearl first and than go after the next best candidate after that. I'd be perfectly ok with Steve Lavin...
 
Pearl is definitely my #1 pick, but there are certainly other coaches out there I would love to have if we can't get Pearl. Steve Lavin isn't one of them.

This morning, I'm getting the sinking feeling that Lickliter is going to be our coach next year though. So, I'm just going to wait and see.
 
If Iowa is in the market for a new coach soon, something I think is the liklihood, I would make sure Pearl told me no at least twice. Then, move on.
 
As was said in the other thread, I can't see Iowa ponying up Lick's buyout, Pearl's buyout, and then paying Pearl's salary here.

Will never happen.

Even if Pearl for some reason happened to say yes (which i dont see happening) I dont see how Iowa can even afford him. $2.5 mil buyout plus Licks buyout plus at least $2 mil per season. What am i missing here? Seems like the dollars and cents dont add up even if Pearl was crazy enough to come here

We have the money. It's just a matter of if the University wants to viewed poorly as spending that kind of money in this type of economy right now.
 
How about this for a wacky idear...

Mr. Davis comes back in and takes over for a year, putting the system in place and putting Bruce and Keno both squarely in play to have one of them take over and hit the ground running in 2010/11?
