Playoff irony

Under last year's system, Alabama and FSU would have played for the National Championship.:mad::mad:

Under last year's system (eh, maybe? really idk with all the weird sub-rules on bowls selections) Ohio St. and Oregon would have played in their season finales... in the Rose Bowl.

Just kinda weird how things work out.

It's also funny how TCU embarrassed Ole Miss making it look like they should have been in. But the team they would have replaced just beat the number 1 team. I'm guessing an 8 team playoff is coming soon.

I hadn't thought about that. What a terrific point. I'm not sure it'll lead to 8 teams any sooner. I thought we're locked into 4 teams for 8 yrs?

I think that was the long-term plan all along. How is it possible to have 4 playoff spots and 5 major conferences? It isn't.

Agree, faulty (not being 8) from the start but better than handing it to the SEC every year. How many years did a team that was close in terms of rankings in the 3-5 spot in the county that might have knocked off the SEC champ? The issue has always been not knowing for sure who was the best # 2 even. One year it was awarded SEC vs SEC no less!

The most under rated conference over this time has been the PAC-12. Not saying they were the best every year but typically they are loaded with talent and speed. They could have knocked off some of those SEC teams over that time period.

It seems much of the Natl Media has had the PAC 12 as best conference or 2nd best all year, sans SEC west. They in fact are now like 5-1 and lead the way in this years bowl games. You are very correct in stating they could have done some damage over the years if given the opportunities.

Pac 12 has two games left today. Should they win those, it will be a great year for the conference.

So far, the Big 10 has better bowl wins..IMO
Alabama, Boston College, North Carolina, Baylor and Auburn. 2 top 5 teams and another ranked.

Pac 12 has beaten Fla. St., Duke, Nebraska, Colorado St. and Maryland. Stanford played Maryland 30 minutes from their Campus. USC basically had a home game against Nebraska (playing without a coach) Pac 12 has beaten only one ranked team thus far.

The contracts are for 12 years. It will be difficult to totally change things mid-contract, but not impossible.
