This is the only reason I can see people being mad about going for the bomb on that 3rd and 1.... Didn't we get a delay of game on the punt???? Why not leave the o on the fricken field and at least draw them offsides?

Yeah, I wasn't really upset by the deep pass of 3rd and 1. It was the fact that they didn't go for it on the 4th and 1. I can understand, and even applaud, going for it every once in a while (although that was a really odd time). But if you are going to take that shot, you have to be ready to go on the 4th and 1 if it fails.

I didn't think the playcalling was horrible- I like the bomb on 3rd and 1.... but not when your defense has been on the field the entire half. get a first down and buy them some more time to rest at the least.

The problem with the call is that Iowa could not afford another 3 and out at that point. It needed a first down. They could have gotten the first down and ran the play fake bomb the next play because the 4 plays Powell was in he ran past NIU defenders like they had steel shoes on.
