PJ Fleck To Get His Wish After All

ESPN Game Day is going to Minneapolis. No doubt Fleck is throwing his shoulder out in an attempt to pat himself on the back.

He will lay it on thick this week, if anyone is listening.

I say give the guy his due. On verge of a B1G West title, Game Day in town, rebounded from a tough loss. I think they can beat Wisconsin. He SHOULD enjoy the hell out of it.

I agree. You have to give the guy credit. He was hired to sell a program in a market that doesn't really care that much about college football in general and he has big time. He's been taking a lot of shit from opposing fans and from fans of his own program. Call in shows were brutal after the Iowa loss. But he's done what hasn't been done in Minneapolis in decades. He has his city and the nation talking about his team.

He's recruiting good athletes and for as much as Iowa fans don't like him and his gimmicks, he wants to play remarkably similar to the way Iowa plays and is incredibly complementary of the Iowa program.

Agree with this.

Twin Cities is a pro area, much like Chicago. Tough to be prominent and compete with NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL dollars.

We'll give him his 15 minutes of fame. Despite his new contract, he'll be gone soon. Him and his stripper wife.

At some point big time donors from USC, Miami, FSU, or an SEC school will come with an offer he can't turn down. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if somebody was willing to fork over his 10 million buyout right now. There are a lot of desperate programs out there right now.

Plus he's set very high standard this season that will be hard to reach going forward at Minnesota. Glen Mason was actually talking about this on sports radio a few weeks back. He basically said, year 1 & 2 is for setting up your culture and getting your players in place. Years 3-6 should be when your program really takes off but you also start losing good assistants. After that get out of town and start fresh somewhere else because fans won't like it when you can't stay to the standard you set.

With the yearly coaching carousel outside of Iowa City there will be a big name school come along that won't take no for an answer. If Fleck is there in 5 years I would be surprised.

So true, as much as I dislike him personally, what’s he’s done for a 3rd rate program with no fanbase is impressive. Those wide receivers are “elite” which is the only time he’s able to use that word accurately
