Pirsig to the Goophers

Kiel to Indiana. Pirsig to Minnesota. If only basketball players weren't concerned about playing for an awful, awful program we could pick up a few bball recruits!

By the way Minny is getting slammed on here, you would think we actually beat them last year. I hope the elite programs don't slam us everytime we take a recruit from them.

+1
Much easier to rebuild in Bball. Two or three nice recruits and you are in business. Imagine if mccaffery were to sign two Mcdonalds All-Americans, we would be contenders just like that. The same is not true in football, which is much more of a long term, difficult process.

While this is true, it's very tough to get that elite recruit that can instantly turn things around, when you are rebuilding in basketball. In football, you don't need that kind of recruit to rebuild (see: Kirk Ferentz).

It's easier in football, because you don't need that elite recruiting class to win. Player development is at more of a premium.

Basketball is more simple fix, but it's not an easy fix.

Exactly, HALF of football teams play in a bowl game. Only 20% of basketball teams play in the tourney. What I'm saying in rebuilding a basketball program is that kids want to come in and play right away and play in NCAA tourney and play 1-3 years and then go pro. They want quick results so they look at more established programs. In football kids take more RS as it's more of a developmental sport because more bodies and in football you play 3 years before going pro so can take more time. With no tourney in football, a lot of recruits want to experience a bowl game which is available to HALF the teams. Basketball recruits are more about wins.

Again, you are completely missing the point. The 200+ schools that are outside of the BCS conferences in basketball are irrelevant.

How many bowl bids go out to BCS teams versus NCAA bids? Almost even.

How many Big Ten basketball teams make the tourney each year versus play in a Bowl?

Usually about 6 or 7 in each.

You're the Lord of the Flies. So our basketball team can never develop players only our football team can do that. Me and the Old Spice guy now command you to stick your head up you *** to atone for your idiocy.

BTW, there are over 100 moving parts on a football team. 13-15 on a basketball team. Saying the basketball team is harder to fix is like saying a bicycle sprocket is harder to fix compared to a jet engine.
