Phil Steele's All Big Ten teams

I think Coker, if he stays healthy, will wind up higher.

Phil has always been a KF/Iowa fan and I’m curious where he’ll rank them. He gets Iowa as well as any. This should be a good year for Iowa. Although many are putting them in the 35th to 40th range Athlons put them at 26 and you get the sense that they felt they had no choice because they honestly think they’ll be better once again. They did have some sharp criticisms for them but you can see in their words they are caught wondering how they’ll respond to off-season controversy……it would suck prognosticating Iowa. They never do what you see them doing.

We have been here before….off season issues, lost draft picks, but a lot of internal hope. If we get the leadership I expect I see a galvanized, “strong†team hitting the field next fall.

Last year, as I have said 1000 times before, I was concerned about leadership and it is THAT which sometimes holds Iowa back. We have enuff talent to win 10 games every year. The coaches can’t do it alone; they needed Pat Angerer and AJ Edds last year…. I was disappointed for sure, but not overly shocked.

Steele has released is #30-23 so Iowa likely lower than 30

Yes I saw that and I also saw MSU and Wisco around 23rd to 28th but it isn't impossible he puts Iowa above both of them. I’d thought 31st, 2nd, 3rdish….but I’ve bought his mags for 10 years (kept them all too) and I’ve seen him jump Iowa up before when others didn’t. I could see 20, 21, 22! I guess will know soon……J

The interesting thing and this speaks volumes about how closely Steele’ really watches things…..On the unit others are Nashing their teeth over, Defense. He places 4 Iowa kids on the top 2 teams and 6 overall. Its particular telling what he thinks of Binns and Daniels….

Wisco has 5 and MSU 4!

If Iowa, as I think and I wager he does too, gets that kind of production out of their defense (along with some new kids I think you Jon, I and many others believe will explode) then we are in for a treat.

Not likely that Iowa will be higher. One of Steele's biggest "quirky stats" that he swears by is turnover margin. If a team has a plus or minus higher or lower than 12 the previous year, that is a huge red flag for him. Iowa was +13. Thus, it's highly probable he'll be predicting them to have the same or worse record this year.

Yep I've read it cover to cover for many years. Another is draft day hangover...another is rebound years. Another is net close wins or losses.

I'll have to look but I'll almost guarantee Iowa’s TO margin has been pretty high for several years in a row. 3 at least…..
