Phil Parker the Man

I hear you loud and clear. I have seen a lot of games where head coaches have relied on their D to hold up and win the game, with success. I prefer the offense to put together a time consuming, run oriented drive to maintain a lead or win the game. I honestly think KF also prefers the latter and circumstances often require the former. I just don’t know if coaches can always make the correct call. Circumstances often intervene. But your point is well taken.
It usually boils down to, do I run the ball to keep the clock moving, or do I take a chance and throw the ball, knowing that if it is an incompletion, the clock will stop and that helps the other team. In KF's case, it is pretty clear that he prefers to run the ball and keep the clock moving. That also means turning it over to your defense to stop the other team. I can't say that it is right or wrong and it has worked out both ways for us. I can say it is hard on us fans at times....

Actually the D has been pretty good this season in each game.

Seriously????
Nothing new hear folks, don’t stop and stare, move along, move along!

what would have the last ten years be like if we had an offense that could just keep up with the defense?

The college football world would be saying “Wisconsin who???”
Well we run the Bend Don't Break. Unfortunately...

and our offense runs the bend over offense.

How many conference titles have we had in almost 17 years??? Goose egg BABY!!! It’s not working but he been getting paid as if it does.

What one divisional title in how many years??? How many divisional titles has Wisconsin had?

While Hayden was here we totally owned Wisconsin.

Kirk is a good coach but his overly conservative offense has kept him from being an exceptionally great coach.

The other crap of attacking his character this past year is just that, horse crap. He is a good person and any one who says otherwise is full of it.

Phil is the Man... but he still owes me an explanation about WTF defense that was against David Bell at Purdue. Bell was the only player that could hurt us....

Felt like a basketball team that refused to go out and cover a great 3-point shooter who was getting open look after open look. At some point you have to smother a guy like that (and you don’t have to be a coach to see it.)
Totally agree but thinking back you wonder what affect having 4th string linebacker (Doyle gone, Campbell out, Benson out) had on Parker's ability to change things up.

I agree I think this was more of an outcome of all the COVID hyper crap that forced odd workout schedules...watching us corral Bateman last night makes me believe if we played them again Purdue wouldn't be able to run the ball and perhaps Bell is better contained.

Moss has improved light years from his freshman year.

Koerner is coming on too.

Parker deserves plenty of credit for that. Merriweather has been steady as well. Brents can't get his position back. Too much talent ahead of him.

Our pass defense has a long way to go. Pretty good in man but zone, wow. Bell in the Purdue game would find a hole in the zone, sit down and read a magazine and wait for the ball.

Yeah, I get that. I think they have done better with this when they added a Cash position, but the most frustrating was when we wouldn't change out of LB's guarding WR's or athletic RB's in pass coverage. I still see LB's in coverage, but less mismatches than before. I still have nightmares of McCaffrey running wild around our LB's and even David Johnson losing them in coverage.

Some extra adjustments week to week would be nice. But I get that overall, the base defense wins out enough of the time that they dont want to go away too much from it.
I think there is some confirmation bias at play here as well. Iowa covered up Bateman pretty well last week. Rondale Moore did nothing two years ago (albeit at the expense of covering Purdue's other WRs). David Montgomery was covered well in his final season at ISU. Pittman did nothing for USC last year in the bowl game.

What really hurt in the Purdue game was the inability to stop the run in the second half, which is perplexing since Iowa has been so effective in this area otherwise. Purdue must have made an adjustment at halftime and/or Iowa just wasn't well-conditioned after the stop-and-start off-season.

For sure. They were definitely softer against the run both against Purdue and NW in the second half. That sure didn't help.
