PFF College - Iowa

LOL.

And then Iowa getting killed by Alabama or Clemson 145-3 in the semis.

Clemson has outscored all non SEC/ACC opponents 98-20.

Alabama has outscored non SEC/ACC opponents 142-83 and did get beat by Ohio State once.

The last two times a B1G team even appeared in the CFP they got blown out 38-0 and 31-0 in the first round. I'm sorry, but for anyone who has dreams and aspirations of making the CFP and beyond that winning a game or keeping the score within 50 pts, you should abandon your delusion and be content with hope of winning the Big Ten and being left out of the CFP (which is going to be the new norm). The top teams in the SEC/ACC play big boy football and the Big Ten might as well be D-2.

Folks can be mad about it and flame me all they want, but it doesn't change facts. Until someone can prove me wrong by a Big Ten team putting up even a hint of a fight it's all wasted breath.
I think what you are trying to say is that Alabama and Clemson are in a class of their own.

Here are the national champions by conference not named Alabama or Clemson since the playoff began:
B1G: 1
ACC: 0
SEC: 0
PAC 12: 0
Big 12: 0

Am I bending numbers here? Absolutely, but it’s really just Alabama and Clemson then everybody else. It’s not simply a Big10 problem. Notre Dame suffered the same fate as did Washington.

Now as an Iowa fan correct I’m not worried about the playoff. The goal should be to get to Indy. I’m pretty sure the poster your were replying to was being completely sarcastic. But to make it sound like this is a B1G problem is far from accurate, outside of Clemson and Bama nobody has had much CFP success.

AJ Epenesa is a big time ball player. I would rather draw Bama than Clemson because I'd be worried that Ross would give us some coverage issues, but Trevor Lawrence would be running for his life against Epenesa and Clemson would be lucky to score 17 on us. Ferentz would keep it nice and steady, 1 TD per quarter and win 28-17.

Clemsonb NC State, Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, and LSU are all SEC/ACC schools that would kill us. Every conference has weak teams. Hard to have CFP success when there are only 4 teams that get in. And the last three times that the best Big Ten school got in, they got beat like redheaded stepchildren.

Look, Clemson, Bama and Georgia are all pretty good, at least for now. Auburn and LSU are good and have had some great teams when the boosters have come through. Miami and NC State have a few stars but also glaring deficiencies that make them bad teams. Iowa could hold its own against all of those teams but Clemson, Bama and Georgia. Mississippi State is pretty similar to Auburn and LSU - some serious athletes, but absolutely terrible QB play.

Now if Iowa had to play an SEC West schedule and draw those teams every week it would be really bad, but once you get past the top cut in the South, I don't think the teams are materially better than Iowa/Wisconsin/Michigan State level. The Big Ten's problem isn't the strength in the second tier, it is that PSU, OSU and Michigan need to carry the water for the conference on the big stage and aside from that year OSU lucked out with Cardale, those programs just can't hang, as has been evidenced by Michigan and PSU falling off the face of the Earth and OSU forgetting to show up in huge games every year other than 2002 and the Cardale year.

If those three were regularly hanging around the rim and could win one title out of every three or four years, the perception of the Big Ten would be a lot different, but when you have OSU getting embarrassed by Florida, Clemson and LSU and Notre Dame (who many tie in with "the Midwest/Big Ten/North) getting destroyed by Clemson and Bama people start asking why the hell they even let northern teams into the playoff.

That’s interesting because there have only been three B1G teams to make the college football playoff (OSU twice and MSU) and one of them OSU in 2015 won it all. Not sure where this 3rd supposed beat down has come from.

NC State? NC effing State? That’s where you want to hang your hat? I’m literally dying laughing. That’s who you want to tie your wagon to? Iowa is a superior football program than NC State. NC State’s last double digit win season came in 2002. Their best bowl game in that time frame is the gator bowl. Not sure where you dreamed that one up.

Miami has been beaten by Wisconsin the last two years.

Bama and Clemson are in a class of their own with Georgia making a push towards that level. Most people understand that. Any realistic Iowa fan knows we aren’t competing with those teams. The rest is just kind of your created drivel.

The one thing I will say about some of those southern programs (other than the current royalty) is that if their bag man comes through, they have a ceiling that far exceeds Iowa's, but in an ordinary year, they ain't as good as the media hypes them.

Wut the hell we doin in this thread?

B1G sucks? I seem to remember 7-1 in bowls 2 yrs ago and then 5-4 last year.

Iowa cant hang with the south? I seem to recall beating LSU, Miss State and crushing Florida and Texas

Iowa can't close the deal against bluebloods? I seem to recall Iowa destroying the Buckeyes; Wolverines; Huskers and Nittany Lions in seasons where they were ranked.
