PF Tyler Harris Visiting Iowa in August

Just did a quick Google search on him to see how his recruiting is going and Howe is reporting he's coming to Iowa in August! You may know his brother Tobias Harris who went to Tennessee. Tyler sounds like he could end up being a monster and is a little bit of a late bloomer. Rivals has him rated 70th best player in the nation and 6'8 200 lbs. Here is a short bit on him. I would be ecstatic if we landed him. He currently has offers from UCONN, NC State, Tennessee, Boston College, and Virginia Tech. He is from New York.

I've said it before...I REALLY like where this program is headed...Now if Fran can coach...which I think he can.

I don't much about this kid, but I imagine Basabe and Harris running up and down the court for 3 years would give this team a look we haven't seen since....a really long time. Long, explosive, lanky athletes sounds good to me.

Um, if we can get any of these kids... At least it is encouraging that they are coming in to visit. But FM still needs to be able to close the deal.

As I have said previously, he needs one blue chipper out of this class or two strong Big Ten contributors, along with Basabe and Marble's continued development, to have a chance at keeping some of the 2012 talent in-state.

I see Tyler as a strong B10 contributor type.

Yeah no doubt...but I find it encouraging that these guys are even looking at us...it indicates Fran must be a pretty good salesman...because it certainly isn't the program selling them right now.

Yes, the program is headed in the right direction with Coach Fran at the helm. He is the anti-Lickliter/Alford. I simply don't remember this much emphasis on recruiting with either of them. The fact a kid of this caliber is even going to visit is a testament to how hard Coach Fran is working on manking Iowa a top-half Big Ten team again.

I don't agree that he has to get a "blue chipper" he just needs players that understand how to play basketball, go to class and stay out of trouble. Coach Fran can coach, he knows how to get a lot out of his teams. The philosophy he has works, Iowa has a lot of young talent, he just needs to continue to add pieces that fit his vision.

And as always: Go Hawks!!

Yeah, I didn't mean he needed a blue chipper, it was an either/or thing. He needs to either hit it with one guy that will bring in others, or he needs to get a couple of more guys that will make the Blue Chippers in 2012 think they might be the final couple of pieces.

He isn't going to get the 2012 blue chippers if they don't see some talent that is going to be around them. Marble and Basabe is a start, but it needs to be more than those guys and other players that are similar in talent to the rest of the guys on the team.

I can't stress how important the 2011 recruiting is. Without the right pieces in 2011, 2012 will be depressing watching the Blue Chip players leave the state. If that happens, it will be back to the drawing board.

Exactly I've been kind of a wait-and-see with Fran's recruiting abilities. But just getting a kid from New York, who has offers from top programs in the East, to visit Iowa is impressive. Does it do anything for us if he doesn't commit... not really. But it shows Fran and Co can build relationships with top recruits.

Tyler Harris's scout profile says that he intends to reclassify into 2012 class? Why would he do this if he is good now?

Also notice he already had an offer from Siena. Maybe this is a guy that Fran was already recruiting when he came here?

If Seina offered, it was after Fran left. He stated in Rob's article that he wasn't contacted by Fran until he was at Iowa. I also think that his scout profile is probably in need of updating as Rob has him as a class of 2011.

This is why I believe Fran was the right hire and will be successful. A guy with deep East coast ties and knowledge coupled with an assistant in Andrew Francis who has just as good of ties and connections to the East. Words can not describe how talent rich this region of the country is with absolute ballers who can make a huge, immediate impact for a team like Iowa. The more this staff can tap those connections and bring in guys like Basabe and maybe even Harris, the better. After a decade of "Indiana boys" on the bench it sure feels good knowing that Iowa will go East!

Finally, another fan that sees the light...Thank you.

Yes, there are blue chippers in the 2012 class, but there is plenty of talent on the roster to go with them now. Yes, the 2011 class is important, but Iowa must be smart, which Coach Fran is and just continue to add pieces to the roster and then the 2012 class can look like heroes when Iowa finishes tops in thier division of "The New Big Ten." Trust in Coach Fran, he has provided so much energy, positive energy to the program that has been missing since the days of Mr. Davis.
