Petras pass at 9:47 of 1st qtr last week, missed a breaking open receiver for big play

The Ferentzes aren't telling him anything. Brian should be putting the book together for the week and Kirk should be meeting with Brain and Fill Parkour.

Ken Keefe is the one working with Petras. Kirk would I'm sure be the first person to tell you he doesn't know dick about QB mechanics and reads.
That would explain how Nat Stanley struggled for 3+ years completing passes, then miraculously, after a week of one-on-one training with a specialist, (and a minor tweek) won an accuracy contest amongst good QB's on TV.

Just saw this comparison. Also, they are tied with 4 wins in these seasons.

Now do Vandenberg from 2011 when O'Keefe was the OC. The kid threw for over 3,000 yards and had 25 TDs against 7 INTs. That dropoff was the miracle of Greg Davis at work.

Not real good comparison. James first year as starter was pretty good, over 3k yards and alot of TD's and a 3.6 TD/Int ratio. New coordinator from TX in the next year and the entire offense went to sleep. James got screwed imo, but such is life.

Losing McNutt was a big reason for the drop, but Davis's insane route tree garbage that required 6 independent reads for each play and then had a decision matrix attached to each route was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. I know that is a common facet of an offense, but you really have to slim down those reads at the collegiate level and I felt bad for JVB when he would throw it 8 yards away from a guy and the crowd would get all exasperated. It wasn't his fault. The WRs and QBs were never on the same page under that system and the year we hit 12-0 it was because (a) we had a borderline NFL starter caliber QB, (b) Brian Ferentz was line coach and run game coordinator and was really in his element in those roles, and (c) the defense was really good until The Backbreaker.

The decision made by many at HN is that O’Keefe is incompetent as a QB coach. So a long term career coach, who has operated at various levels, including the Power 5 and the NFL, who is deeply familiar with the Iowa program, has coached a variety of positions, has been an OC, and has one basic responsibility, does not know what he is doing. Do you know how dumb that incompetency charge by a bunch of HN posters sounds? Come on.

and at the same time KF has demonstrated exceptionally high tolerance for inept offensive output during his tenure.

Exactly. He was recruited for one type of offense and was thrust into another his senior year. He simply didn't have the receivers for the GDavis "dink and dump" offense. To be honest we never really got any good receivers when he was the OC.

Can't tell if you're being totally facetious or not but it feels like it. I should look up where it is Drew is coaching now. I wanna say closer to home in Texas but I could be wrong about that and I'm not sure at what level he is either. He's obviously not the same kid he was back then. I would bet he'd be a great QB coach if given a chance. I think the KOK return has been played out. BF is still all over the place with his game plans and play calling. One game he's hitting on everything like against USC. Then another he can't get a damn first down against Purdue it doesn't seem like. If that's KOKs impact then it may be time for some new blood.

Here is your heroic former QB as an assistant offensive coach in the XFL spring developmental league. https://xflnewshub.com/the-spring-league/the-spring-league-recap-week-2-conquerors-review/

There's a video clip about half way down the page of a sideline fight between coaching assistant Tate and the opposing QB. I'm sure that altercation will look good on a coaching résumé.

Haha holy shit. Talk about something you don't see everyday. Looks like Tate said something to him and that QB tried to put his hands on him and that's all it takes.

There was obviously some jawing going on between the two initially. Than there is a mutual push against each other's left arms. At that point Tate has his back toward McMillan and could have just walked away. Instead he circles back for more jawing. McMillan raises his arm toward Tate's chest. That when Tate grabs the arm and starts to pull. Tate ends up on the ground with McMillan on top. The others are trying to get the two apart.

Has Tate matured out of his hot headedness? I would say this is evidence he hasn't.

Yeah I highly doubt KF would bring him on with that on his extremely recent resume
